Can you identify this vessel from plan?

Hi,

I have this plan and fibreglass hull but would dearly like to find more info about the vessel (assuming it exists)

The plan describes it as :-

DHM CLASS IC (could be 1C) U.S.L.

Passenger RO/RO vessel

Scale 1:100

Drawn for R.M. Marine

I have searched the internet but haven't had much luck finding pictures of vessels that match the plan. Do you recognise the design? Can you give me a vessel name or point me to a web page which has pictures etc.?

Hello Scottie, going by the logo on the funnel, it looks a s though it could be an Australia New Zealand Direct Line ANZDL and by the accommodation a ship of the freight type. A quick search as you say has not brought anything more to light

Thanks for the reply Jim, I had a feeling it could be Australian. I've done a quick search on anzdl but I still haven't found anything.

Try a post on www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk, they have a regular correspondent from Australia. I see it is described as a "ro-ro" (roll on, roll off) a term usually associated with car or vehicle ferries. The logo is very like the Qantas airline kangaroo, perhaps they are into shipping too ? Could also be an off-shore oil-rig supply boat ???

i think it might be a truck ferry like the one used at dover but im really not sure so dont take my word for it

Im not 100% but that looks very much like a oil rig supply vessel as Duncan said, the thrusters and high bow indicate to me that is its designed to power through and hold station in rough seas..the only put off is the lack of any deck cranes aft but as the rig cranes usually do a transfer up then its logical for them to be not fitted. If it were in the UK but in NZ then you've got to think laterally and as it says RoRo Passenger.......my guess might be the vessels that sail between the north and South island........and that can be a very rough bit of water. The design is essentially the same because of the sea conditions...........try NZ ferry companies/freight haulage.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your help. I finally had it identified by a gentleman from the Faroe Islands as a result of a post on Mayhem. The vessel is/was called Island Seaway, this is the info I was sent -

Island Seaway

1987 / 3536gt

Built by Eglo Engineering, Port Adelaide (3)

Operated by MA.RE.SI. Shipping

Seen in Valletta in July 1999

Unfortunately by the time I got this info I had finished the model so it doesn't look anything like the 'real' thing -- not that I'm bothered about that at all.

I've included a picture of my finished model and one of Island Seaway.

That is still a very fine looking Model and one I would be proud of. It wouldn't take much of a paint job if you wanted to do yours as per the real one. Still a very nice looking model in it's own right.

Since my model (and the plan) isn't very close to the original, especially on the main vehicle deck, I am happy to leave it as it is.
