Thanks Ian and Ole for the words of encouragement, much appreciated.
Have now decided my course of action, and the last of my bits and pieces were delivered yesterday. The 0.6mm wire rope had a much longer lay length than the 0.8mm which is strange, and when you bend it around the small thimbles it tends to kink/birdcage. So am abandoning the wire rope idea and have removed the wire stays I had previously fitted to the forward mast. Instead I plan to use 1mm dia black cord for the mast stays, and 0.25mm dia black cord as binding.
While I was waiting for the materials to be delivered, I came across an article when I was googling on Trawler navigation lights. The outcome is that I have modified the lights as follows. Note the light configuration depends on the era you are working on as regulations change over the years. For me after examining the few photos I have, I have settled on the following.
Forward mast Navigation light
Top: - Tri-colour light: Green-White-Red representing Starboard-Forward- Port respectively.
Middle: - Forward White light
Bottom: - 360 Deg White light
Aft
Aft facing white light
See photos below, where you will see I have added a Patina to the Lights brass bodies.
So next week i will get down to the serious work of rigging the Trawler, and touching up some of the paint spots I see I have missed. Amazing what a photo shows up.
And Ole especially for you some overall shots. I have added a same scale Tornado (1/48) to give some idea of how small these Trawlers were. How would you like to steam to Iceland in one of these in the winter in the old days with no Radar, air/sea rescue etc etc.
Thanks Ole and Mrs Ole, your support as always is greatly appreciated.
Just a brief update; Phase 1 of the rigging is complete i.e. the Mast Stays and Funnel. Used 1mm dia black cord with the cast bronze 3.5mm thimbles from modellingtimbers.co.uk lightly dusted the cord to look like rusting wire. The mast stays on a Trawler were steel wire brush painted with grease to inhibit corrosion, inevitably the grease collected dirt and went black very quickly, and rust very quickly began to show through.
Your continued support is much appreciated Ole mate.
Have now finished the Foremast Derrick and Rigging, also the ratlines and shrouds (rope ladders to you and me), also the bag ropes and Derrick lift line. I have shown the post side bagging ropes fitted, and the starboard bagging ropes disconnected as they would be in order to allow the nets to be recovered onboard after the codend's contents are discharged into the fishpond.
I am changing the 3 blade white metal propeller supplied with the kit for a more realistic 4 blade larger diameter brass one which would have been fitted to Trawlers. Will dull it down and weather it so that it looks old and pitted.

So have to fit the radio aerial; the lanyard from the steam whistle on the front of the funnel to the wheelhouse, finish off the painting and weathering and attempt to splice some eyes on the mooring ropes.
Thanks to everyone who followed this build and offered many words of encouragement. Will post photos of the finished Trawler in the 'Ship and Boat Picture' section some time next week hopefully. Cheers Derek
