aha we have red stuff Looks very smooth Andy, just shows preparation is the important part eh?.
You've probably already got this sussed but a mate of mine who built boats quite a bit used to put some of those cheap felt sticky pads on the stand/cradle (whatever its called) when he tipped it up the right way to stop the paint being damaged or sticking to the stand/cradle if not fully cured for any reason.
He used to swear by them and said they were better than the rubber/soft plastic type pads you sometimes get issued with the boat kit.
Cheers Colin. I couldnt find what they sent with the kit but i got just the thing in the work shop for the job.
Thanks Polux. It still looks a little thin on the coat but it has had a few and its a trick of the light. Im satisfied with it and when dry enough we will be going for the black next. As Colin said about the stand etc i might leave it a couple of days to harden off well and in the meantime ill be jumping a head again and will build the next bit.
Thanks Ole. I was a little worried about the color. I have the same red/make in a gloss that i used on the roundalls of the SE5a and it was very red. In my opinion this matt red is the exact color it should be so im very happy with the result.
Looking good Andy. I like to get a couple of coats of a compatible, durable varnish on the lower half of the hull and let it cure for 48 hours at room temp before I let anything touch the hull such as a cradle.
Hi Andy, what paint did you use for the red? cheers Derek
Derek, the red is made by Spectra a specialist fuel proof paint for models, the black will be by Flair and again with the same proofing. It doesnt mention anything about requiring a varnish afterwards and does show a boat on the lable.
As i mentioned, while letting the paint cure good and propper i decided to move on to a few other bits. One of them is the anchor winch. This is now painted but is drying for assemble tomorrow.
The i moved onto the hatches, i have a couple more to do yet but its best to get them done so i can prime them with the deck while i have paint that i have decanted from the rattle tin.

Hi Andy, Not familiar with these paints I'm afraid, but as you say they are probably water resistant anyway. Cheers Derek
