AN HI Tony yea im lookin forward to tryin to make up the guns turrets an try an get them to travis an guns elevate ive got several ideas in my mind at the moment but nothing concrete as im hopein to have it so that when the turrets travis right or left an guns elevated there will be fitted in the guns barrels yellow ultrabright flashing leds to simulate the guns firein an maybe depending on cost a gun fire sound unit as at the moment i think they are about 40 pounds so will have to save up my pennyies for that an the large radar is a P/E KIT an with a bit of thought an planning ahead it went togeather without any real problems it was just patience on patience an build it slowly an it turned out ok pic of the kit against my hand an yes its was a fair size

As a thought, the turrets and firing when traversed and elevated, could that be done by having a track for the 'breech' with contact points for the leccy at the ends of it? Got an image in my mind of it, but trying to explain - something like this (back of envelope sketch)

HI Gerry well thanks for your idea on this gun turret an i'll be quite honest i dont really understand your diagram but will keep the thought in mind if you could exsplain it a bit better say from side veiw with the gun turret drawin in so ive got some reference point to work from an front veiw an top veiw then perhaps i might be able to understand your idea cheers an thank you for puttin your thoughts to this problem :thumb2: but i have the layout drawing on how to work a gun turret from model boats book to give me some idea but will see if i can understand your idea first if possible as really now i'll be goin into mini engineering an i think its goin to be a bit complex but will see as ive first got to finish off this hulls
CHEERS Jerry ATB to you an thanks for havin a look in on the build

I'll try and do the three elevations, but imagine a 'sad' smiley mouth on a post, tang/breech into the mouth, and connections at the ends of the mouth.
Other way would be to cut a cam onto a center post and use something like a cars points system, so that the points close at the end of the traverse

Just giving it a bit more thought - how are you planning on turning the turrets - by a central post or by a ring round the edge?

HI again Jerry well if you do your vershion i promise i'll look at them but below is a diogram of a twin gun layout that does work an maybe the vershion i'll go with

HI AGAIN Jerry well i may go with the above idea as it does work but your ideas may have some merit as you may think up something i hav'nt thought of an cheers for your intrest an help an in the above diogram they work by a outer gearing like the real thing an i will use spring loaded knock on switches for the eletrics but these units will take a fair amount of time to work out an get goin an to get the bits i need to do this as i want to have the big 6 inch turret goin an the smaller 3inch turret working an at the moment im still tryin when warm wheather again to respray the hulls in their top coluors but im pleased that you are takin an intrest in these guns turret as they will be fairly complex when i do start but its gonna take a lot of experiementing to see which will work for me but please continue with your ideas cheers :thumb2:

More involved than I originally thought
But the principal remains the same, you need power to the lights only at the end of travel, so a contact on the gun and one at each end of the travel, and the negative wire could be fed out through the middle of the 'elevating push rod' - no need for switches, as the contacts would actually be the switch.

WELL Jerry ive got all the mini spring loaded knock on switches so i may as well use them an they are very easy to instal in the gun turret but my main headacke will be gettin all the gears an servos to work all this as i said its quite a complex arrangement but will see an put a lot more thought into it when im at that stage an with your help if you feel like to help an regards the yellow ultrabright flashing LED'S im fitting in the gun barrels to simulate gunfire they will have their wirein comin down the gun barrels an goin down the centre of the turret an bein flexible wire they will twist too like the turret as it will not go all the way around as it will hits some stops an cheers again for your thoughts Jerry very kind of you

As you've already got the switches, pointless not to use them (makes life easier as well!)
