Would you believe it, the hand held electric saw and clamps belong to my sister...she's into carpentry.

Watching your carpentry with interest.......It never occurred to me to make my own bases. I always used cheap or discarded picture frames. Thanks for the "Demo". Rick H.

Thanks Jim, I hope I can pull it off. I seldom do seascapes.

                Cheers,

You should try it some time, gives you the control of the size needed. Here's the Oxford placed just for size and composition. I may want to raise the level higher with two pieces of foam for the sea.

                    Hi,
I have done a bit more to the base. Firstly I added height by gluing two pieces of compressed foam board and shoring the sides with black mounting board strips about 1mm or 2mm higher than the two boards. This will be filled in with wall plaster and a wave pattern sculpted on while it's still wet.

But before that I wrapped the masking shape of the ships hull with clingwrap and placed it in position before plastering.

I used the tiny spoon shaped back end of my paint stirrer to create the swells and waves. I removed the mask when the plaster dried and tried the ship on it. Fit was perfect. While the plaster does its final cure I will add more waves created by the ship as well as the stern section. I will seal it with a coat of varnish and paint it.

Yes Steve, a few hundred nautical miles to go and at a speed of 10 knots pretty hard going :smiling6: I'm a bit wary about doing the seascape right. She isn't a quick boat so the wakes won't be high or obvious.

                        Cheers,
                        Richard

Now since my ship is being placed on a base with a seascape to be sculpted, should I now move this to the diorama section?

Please let me know before I break another rule as I have spent too much time on it already.

                            Cheers,
                            Richard

Looking excellent Richard. I've enjoyed following all the progress.

How about finishing the seascape on this thread. Then posting just one picture of the end result on here as a sort of 'Taster'.

......then give us the Full Monty over in Dioramas 'Completed'? I would hope that might be an amicable solution. :thumb2:
