Jim Apart from your modelling skill:thumb2: another impressive thing is the quality of the laser cut ply.
Quite often you see really burnt edges, this seems to have been machined with care. Good idea with the use of the solvent stain, that veneer wouldn't stand up to a lot off sanding to remove a raised grain from a water based stain.

        Hi all
Thanks again for all the your encouraging, supportive comments :smiling:

A bit of progress. The next job was to complete the inside planking of the hold up to the deck supports for the orlop deck.

The last plank had to have notches cut to fit around the deck supports.

In the real ship massive riders run across the hold which strengthen the hull.

They needed a bit of fettling to get a decent fit - and lots of clamps :tongue-out3:

Holes had to be cut in the bottom of the hold for the pumps and the base of the mast. You are supplied with templates to print off. The instructions have you mark the positions, drill 2mm holes around the edges and then join the holes with a knife to complete the holes. Sounds easy but surprisingly difficult.

The mast step was fitted and I built up the stand. Stained the hold and the stand with oak stain and test fitted the pump well.

Great work Jim. Just had a quick catch up and that's coming on very nicely.

Looking great Jim. Love the “front” and “back” labels on the template in case you forgot which side starboard indicated....

                  Hi all

Paul, Lee,Andrew and Tim - thanks guys :thumb2:

Finishing off the hold. The pump well was fixed in place and then the two large hold platforms were built up. Very straightforward apart from fitting into the awkward shape against the hull.

The orlop deck beams were cut from their laser fret and cleaned up. As John mentioned earlier the charring from the laser cutting is not too bad but cleanup does take time. The beams were stained and checked for fit.

This is great! I love the staining you’ve put on. It’s really adding to the scale effect.
