These pieces deserve some attention as they're prominent and pretty well moulded.

Painting in gold, thought I'd try an experiment - Humbrol gold enamel vs acrylic. With and without flash.

Frankly, the acrylic is shocking. "Green/brown matt" would be a better description. Binned.

Crow's nests done, and what a pain in the arse they were. Companionway as well - very small so I decided not to drill out the windows - I may drill the deck to get some light from below through the doorway.

Happy with the way these came out. Had a little play and came up with a metallic copper/brown wash for the eagles' heads. Wasn't sure it would work, but apart from being a tad particulate from really close up it's worked far better than the black/rust I tried first. No way it could be left without highlighting, just not quite enough definition without. Pleased with the ornate gold too, those magnifying LED gegs really helped.

Hi Andrew
Beautiful dog. Collies are loving and so intelligent. Our's is nearly 16 now but still doing OK.
Love the detail painting. I think the metallic work is very realistic.

Ours is half spaniel half collie, which makes her too clever, too bouncy and too judgemental. She's 13 this year, bit of arthritis but no sense of age. Still thinks she's 2 and that we're stupid.

So the crow's nests took me 3 days and the decking about half an hour. Can't believe how well they came out, wood primer and a brown wash. Bosh. Job done.

A few more off-site bits to paint then it's on to construction.

So, construction begins. Hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew with this lighting, but it's taking some planning!

One light going inside the hull, just to show through the deck grate. I've wired for the masts although can abort if need be.

The deck fits to the hull with Revell's usual abysmal attention, but fortunately the hull halves seem pretty good, shouldn't have to fill. I've made a small guide frame to help support the deck as the second hull half goes on.

Hi Andrew
That deck looks very good. All the wires look rather complicated.

Thank you all.

Hull together, phew. The rear bulkhead was a pig, loads of filling and sanding and I lost the wood grain. Fortunately not a particularly eye-leading area.

Got the wires through the deck, haven't spotted a cockup yet. Put the supplied stand on for now just to help support it during the build, but it'll go. Rudder on and it wiggles should I wa

Then had to put 44 bloody eyebolts in to holes which weren't big enough. I can put 40 of these on my thumb alone, so the dog learned some new words. Done now. Four cleats in and rope installed for later - something I've noticed in older Revell instructions that they seem to plan ahead better.Click image for larger version

Just had a quick catch-up.

That's coming on beautifully. Very well done.

Just caught up as well. Looking fine Bobby. Love the gold gingerbread and deck work. Good luck with the electrical spaghetti!

Eye bolts are these thingies to thread rope through. It's the name they use in the destructions, although I prefer 'ropey holdey things'. In this case, each cannon has two ropes to put through the ropey holdey things. There's 20 cannons. Going to take a while.
