I'm amazed to see that Eduard do a PE set for this kit, although it seems adequately detailed to me. Maybe the crane...

      Thanks for the link Pete.

That's twice what I paid for the kit!
Sometimes I think this P.E. lark is a big con. - and this is a prime example why I avoid the stuff.

To each his own though, eh?

Yes, indeed "To paint or not to paint" I think if I just show a 'suggestion' of the colour on the sinking version, that should be a nice halfway solution.

This one, I'll leave alone and state it was the version just before the lads got the yellow paint out of the locker....

...and yes, it's certainly getting a bit crowded on board now, that's for sure.

Dave, on the face of it, it is bonkers.
The trouble is, or was, I became so wrapped up in what a nice kit it turned out to be, that before I realised what I was doing, I'd committed myself to try and do justice to it.

So there was no turning back to any thoughts of wrecking it. That is when I searched, and found one cheap enough to destroy.

I hope the above serves to explain my apparent loss of normal faculties.

        10/4
Actually I was thinking more along the lines of just swapping the boxes. Then you could tell everyone you were demolishing the cheap one and doing a 'proper' job of the expensive one! :smiling3: :smiling3:

Whatever way you work it, I'm looking forward to the results.

          Ron my apologies :rolling:

Been spending a while going further through the book, its big lol

There is a mention that the main turrets were painted yellow, they gave up on the secondary as the very poor sea state both washed the yellow paint off and threatened the lives of the crew.

So grey leaving Norway and Denmark strait, yellow main turrets after the split from Prinz Eugen

Should have looked more, sorry to confuse you

            Good thinking young David....:thumb2:

Top work Bob and certainly no need to apologize. You latest post clears it up nicely. So thanks to the diligent work from both you and the others who chipped in with suggestions and links (IanM) I can safely, and with a clear conscience, leave this version in grey, whilst she was in the Denmark Straits, but add the yellow to the main turrets only on the model of the sinking ship. Spot on and thanks again. Now you can get back to scoffing your Easter Egg!

Apart from the rigging and a bit of touching up, :flushed: she is more or less complete and ready for the breakout into the North Atlantic.

"Do you know boys, I think she would look pretty with yellow on her gun turret tops." blurted Admiral Lutjens upon returning to Bismarck after a night out at a local Norwegian 'Hostelry'

            Cheers and thanks again.

Being Easter Sunday, my wife and I planned to visit my son and exchange 'Eggs'. His lady is head honcho at a local nursing home, so as a precaution I took a home made Covid test...

Guess what? The test proved positive! How the hell I contracted the thing is anyone's guess. I ain't been nowhere. Luckily the bride is o.k. -Thus far.

However, it won't stop an old fart like me from battling on at the bench doing summat. I don't fancy doing the rigging on Bismarck just yet, so I've turned my attention to the sinking ship. She went down stern first and leaning to port, before capsizing.
My first idea was to build the sea around the complete ship. Using my usual method this would be too complicated and I would need some kind of box to accommodate the invisible stern section, so I intend to build the full hull, superstructure and stick on only what will be seen, which is roughly half the ship. Then once I'm happy with what is glued in position, I'll cut the whole issue in half at a suitable angle. That way, the ship will be sitting on, rather than half under the surface. I will add the odd bit just under the surface, I'll see what's what at a later stage.

Now here is the clever bit.:upside: I will save the stern section and once the sinking ship is photographed, I shall reunite the hull halves, add any missing bits and use that to try and model the Bismarck on the sea bed. Smart or what?

              Here's where I'm at....

              Hull halves joined together.

There are two stiffeners for the hull (top right) As it will be a full hull to start with, I try not to use these. I prefer to keep the hull/ deck joint flexible, so any gaps can be easily skwosed up.

Please note. This post is in the wrong build. It is now duplicated over in my 'Sink the Bismarck'. Sorry about that:upside:

              Cheers.

Earlier today, I was tempted to bid on a floaty thing kit in evilbay. it was the Revell Scharnhorst in 1/570 scale and it ended up selling for less than the postage. After following your work on these I thought I might try one myself (against my "No Kits" rule), but was afraid I would build and paint it with fireworks in the hull. Take it down to the water, pour lighter fluid on it, set it alight, push it off and wait for the bang!!!......Maybe another time without the flashback to my early days as a young 'un..........................

If you aren't feeling any symptoms, I would be inclined to try another test. Double up on Zinc, vit. K, vit. C.....if you can get it, Hydroxychloroquine, and or Ivermectin are also good theraputics. Oh, and stay away from the Hospital, Things have been known to go south in some of those "places" of healing. I'm not a Doctor, just informed. stay safe! Rick H.
