Read up on a Jim Baumann build and he mentioned using a black permanent marker on his railings (1/700) coz it didn’t clog them with paint, might give that a try. No, I WILL give that a try.

Added some rope walks to the lower and middle yard arms (scratch from 0.02mm brass from Albion Alloys). Not accurate but thought the mast areas looked bare. Decided that this model is so crud that I will give up on a lot of the planned detailing and just concentrate on the really crude mouldings, going for an aesthetic rather than accuracy.

Finished all of the railings. And a dry fit of the masts. A couple of mist coats of Matt varnish have hidden a lot of the ‘ickies’. Got some more weathering to do to hide a few newish looking painted bits. When I did the original base spray job I used a mix that I thought looked like a really worn black paint job. Like the idiot I am I neglected to keep some of the mix for touch-up, however by some fluke i had a pot of AK Dunkelgrau Dark Base that was close enough to this colour that with a minimal amount of adjusting, works OK (I‘be made a note 0f the mix this time!). Next up, ships boats!!!
Some help please, trying to find some PE of generic steps with handrails, loads of ladders but can’t find a sheet of just steps! Best i could find so far are some USN inclined ladders from WEM. Like I said before as far as Knyaz is concerned, not that stressed about total accuracy’ just something that looks better than small wedges of plastic that look like washboards!!!! Is there anything else like this out there?

These are part of an eduard set for the turpitz but there are plenty of generic sets on ebay usually come with some ladders or handrails.

Started on ships boats, base paintwork on whalers etc. will add some extra details to launches to make them a little less basic.
Also some initial work on the main and secondary armament, seen various different references covering detail on these so will apply my working premis of using spare bits from my surplus PE stock,, again as an aesthetic rather than accuracy.
