Excellent work Mark. Great etch work, especially. Ship modelling is an art that really needs etch to get the best from it.

Thanks Tim, as much as etch is a pain a ship has gotta have railings at least or it will just look half finished.

A quick update,so this is the first time ive really put any effort into weathering a deck and the first time ive ever used oils so im pretty happy with the outcome albeit i still need plenty of practice, think ive given it the greyish worn look and took the edge off the tan.
I mixed a reddish brown wash first to bring out the plank detail then randomly placed small blobs of neutral grey and a greyish tan colour over the deck and just sort of scrubbed it all in with a brush. Finished with a coat of vallejo matt clear, when thats nice and dry i will begin the lovely job of masking the deck leaving what needs painting grey exposed. The hull will be painted black, bootline masked over, lower hull painted red then ill fix the deck railings and paint the upper hull and deck parts grey.Click image for larger version

Cheers Chris, yes these railings just need bending to shape, my yamoto has separate stantions with 0.1mm wire to thread through them, cant say im thrilled at the thought of doing them!

WOW so they are a qauter of an inch high Mark an why 1/350 th as your yammy is a 1/200 th isnt it or a 1/350 th ? as im gettin a bit mixed up here an if i was you make up a jig to hold one complete length a then drill them out with a upright mount drill as mine takes very tiny drill bit as when i bought the upright bench drill i went threough 4 chucks in B&Q before i found a chuck that was fitted with very arccute jaws in the chuck to hold these small 1mm drill bits as mine were a job to drill out at 3 times the size so better you than me wow

Its 1/350 Chris, the holes need to be
0.3 mm By 0.5 deep so it will be a very time consuming effort by hand.
