My thoughts are the mess area was large, it flooded via torpedo damage and the resulting Asdic tube damage. She wasn't a massive ship, 205ft length, 33ft beam, compliment of 85.

Now, another shot does show flooding near the wheelhouse aft section, inside so, I reckon the flood from Starboard dragged the bow under causing more issues. You're right, I reckon some doors must have been open for her to go down fairly quickly.

Found a pic of the model used in the film sinking.

Stills from the film courtesy of model ships in cinema.

Just to add, the damage and the keel/lower hull would probably be buried in the silt etc upto a certain height so, some damage would be hidden.

I am not making a dio base with silt etc she is going on a stand, for size restrictions so, it was more of representation of damage.

Do you reckon my addled thinking works Chris? :tongue-out3:

Righto guys, need some ideas from you.

Originally, the idea I had was to chop away the keel and some of the lower hull and have her sat on a base with silt/mud and rust etc.

As it turns out, this is not practical, mainly because she is starting to weigh a lot due to sand/dust scree mix. And, she is a pain to move around now so a stand has been made in wood,

A plaque will be fitted but, do I spray the wood in grey or black, do I attempt to plasticard it and then add some small rivets?

              And thoughts welcome fellas.

That is quite a unique job you have done there. First time I have seen a model done in such a way. Quite inspirational.

Thanks Gordon, I started doing these 'sunken jobbies' a few years ago, just to see how they came out.

I have done a 1/35 Sherman on a beach, and mainly sunken subs https://www.scale-models.co.uk/threa...percase.38776/ this shows one of the models.

I could see a few of my fellow 'Rum Ration' colleagues going into raptures over those S/M's. You have a skill my friend.

                              Update.

                              Coatings all applied.

When dry a primer coat will added to seal the surface.
