HMS Warspite back on the workbench

    Hi
Dug out my ongoing build of the Academy Warspite kit, which has been in storage for over 5 years.
it was originally going to be a straightforward, out of the box, build but I found a couple of build logs for the kit on other forums (all using aftermarket parts) which made the ‘basic’ kit look just that. Having gone a fair way along the basic build I thought I would add some extra detail using the build logs (and some reference literature) as inspiration. All of the add-ones are either generic PE or scratch built, except for the wood hunter deck.Click image for larger version

    More current pics.
now more paint to tie in all of the railings and then some more weathering of the hull.
started on this again and got carried away, haven’t even thought about the base.

Nice This is one of the few warships I have on my “would like to build someday” list, as the Warspite was actively involved in the amphibious landings in my area in November 1944.

Oh great,I don't do ships, although I'd love to...
I've always had a BIG affection for the Warspite... apparently my Grandad was on it,got no actual proof of that, but my dad always went on about it!!

Finished all of the railings and added a few extra bits. more weathering of hull and superstructure next, before it gets too crowded.
But before that will have a go at adding some more detail to the cranes. Have seen a reference pic on the web showing a one of Warspite‘s Walruses being craned back aboard, might try copy this for the final setting, just means I will have to purchase some figures and paint them (that will be a first).Click image for larger version

Getting these shelved models out is like bringing an old friend back.
Is this a 1/350 scale model?
I have a pair of ship kits that I really must build soon before I drop of the edge.
Watching with pleasure at your build.

More work on weathering and adding lots of small parts, also this is the first journey for the ‘Grand Old Lady’ from the work bench to her base setting.
this is just to check fit and see how much more I will have to build up the sea level.Click image for larger version

First coats on the base and another check fit. Think I might darken the sea colour a bit more. Looks too much like a ‘holiday brochure’ sea doesn’t look quite that BLUE on the model, will see how it looks after I have smothered it in liquitexClick image for larger version
