    Soya 1/350

With just a few finishing touches left on hms cornwall ive got a new project underway.
The soya was the first observation ship japan sent to Antarctica a start has been made already on the hull which is very nicely detailed and just because i love the feeling of frustration and gluing things to my tweezers theres a sheet of etch.Click image for larger version

I've been tempted by this a few times, but every time I've seen it, the price has been ridiculous!

I bought this and another kit along with some detail kits from plaza japan, this one was 20 quid so even with the postage i still saved a bundle, on its own the postage would wipe out a saving but a bulk order works out well

Mark, I bought this kit a while back and was so disappointed just how small it was for such a big box, I flogged it off!

I couldn't have coped with the minute P.E. either.

It will be interesting to see just what I missed by not keeping the kit.

I was expecting something a little bigger i must admit and without the etch is still going to be a fiddly build, many tiny parts that TET will just dissolve if not careful.
Pontos do a 1/250 version but almost all etch and youll need to sell a kidney to buy it.

ID:	1215506as for this mast ,they supplied steel rod for the two antennas which had no chance staying there with a blob of ca,there far to heavy ,so they've been replaced with some 0.5 styrene. Click image for larger version

So today's efforts. Got some colour on the decks, and colour on all the masts/hoists.some railings fitted at the back and started building the bridge which is pain as theres so many little bits ,some are clear parts. Another quick on the inside ,not that it will be seen.Click image for larger version

Today i enjoyed my time deck masking:tired: great fun! A few touch ups here and there to do but the lower rear deck(on the left)can now be fitted which means i can now get on with building up the rest.

Decided that getting some paint on the hull was a good move so its got a coat of mr hobby black , when thats dried i will mask off the bottom from the waterline and paint the orange.

Update so far, the hull is painted will need a coat of gloss yet.
Done a bit of weathering on the decks and painted the winches and cable reels, had a dry fit of everything and not looking to bad, the green tarps need some attention yet.Click image for larger version
