ok well here are a few pics of whats been going on, i have completed one side of the veneering of the hull and just started the other a bit slow going but getting there and i have jumped the gun a bit and fitted the stem and keel. it all looks a little bit rough just now but should look alot better once it has all been put on and sanded and given a few coats of Danish Oil fingers crossed.

When looking at the wood for the keel i found it had warped and twisted a little but as it turned out i only needed to put a small amount of preasure on it to fit it.

                    hi john

i decided to double plank mine using a walnut veneer as my planking is still not perfect but i hope getting better, just remember to plank evenly on both sides as you go along john and take your time its a difficult job i think and needs patience.

well not much to add as im still working on the veneer so no need for any pics, progress a bit slow at the moment and had a couple of days off. On another note because im over 50 i was given a free nhs check up and it turns out i have type 2 diabetes so just trying to get my head around that at the moment so for those of you in the same age bracket go and have one as like me you never know if anything is wrong with your body as i have not been feeling ill or anything so came as a shock and always best to catch these things early before things start getting complicated.

                      cheers steve

Finally finnished putting on the veneer and it's turned out pretty well i think and just in the process of sanding the hull down now and i like the look of the different shades of walnut just hope it looks as good when iv'e given it a few coats of Danish Oil.

ok iv'e given her a couple of coats of Danish Oil and polished the hull up and its turned out ok

the next thing i did was to cut some more stanchions to the size given in the manual and they are a little bit bigger than the one's on the frames but i will need to cover them anyway to match the new one's

Knife slipped as well when leveling off the rails so got to replace those bits again before capping the rails but these things happen

                          cheers steve

Wow, the oil has made a huge difference. Great progress Steve, I don't comment much in the ship section but I am watching with interest.

Thanks for the comment and yes it has made a big difference and very pleased with the outcome the oil has brought out the natural colours in the wood better than i expected tbh

                              cheers steve

As im finding out with this kit some of the things are just not right ie the cast fittings supplied, in the manual the photos show these fittings as wooden so i can only presume this was a cost cutting exercise but to me they just dont look right at all and im going to have a go at scratch building some of them if i can, also i have found that some of the measurments are wrong like the bulwark stanchions are 5mm at the top together with a 2mm plank when i went to school that made 7mm width for the rail caps and what have they given me 5mm so had to go out and by some more wood for the caps and while i was at it got a sheet of mahogany to help me with some of the other things im thinking of redoing, but hey look on the bright side im learning new skills so its got to be worth it dont you think ?

                                cheers steve
