Academy 1/350 H M S warspite.

this kit is possibly the best kit ive ever seen, I have built two of these already one for someone else and one for myself but I messed up the painting on my own one so ive decided to get it again now ive learnt more form the good folks on here.

this kit is definatly not for beginners or the faint hearted, if you like a detailed kit this is the one.

to show how detailed this kit is here are the instructions for the deck of the ship

Hey Alan, could you help out a fellow modeller here?

I've bought quite a few ships recently in 1/350, many of which have similar amounts of detail to this one. I've checked a wide range of build reviews etc. on these kits but none of them give enough information about painting so I'm not able to even think about starting any of them.

How do you go about the deck details? Do you paint the deck first and then mask to do the details, or do you paint the details first and mask them to do the deck? Either way, I can visualise the masking being an absolute nightmare.

Do you fit PE details - particularly railings? If so, how?

Any advice or pics for either of these would be great.

I don't mask because ive tried it and don't like it , I have a good magnifier headset that brings the detail up by about 10 times you can get them from good hobby shops for about £15 , I find it better to use a thing brush , I use an italiari 000 for small detail with a small amount of paint on it this limits the chances of going over on to the deck.

I allways paint the deck first then apply the detail. I always pain upper decking first then attach it to the deck to give it a clean fit but make sure you don't paint areas you know you've got to attach parts to.

I don't use PE I personaly think it looks wrong however you can get certain tits with the railings , revel do a bismark and a tipitz with them and academy do the graff spee as well.

hope this helps and whatever you decide have fun

              thanks Ian

sections 1-6 now complete and ready for painting

this is just one of twenty two parts that go onto the deck its only 2mm long and for this I shall be using this

I decided on this kit to paint the anchor chains before attaching its easier to attach and you don't have to do any touching up

over 250 parts later this is ready for painting

there are more parts to go on that deck but that's towards the end of the build

I've never built a ship, and this looks excellent! Look forward to seeing her completed.

cheers guys ive taken a day off today , I don't want to get to close to the project and end up spoiling it, I have done some masking up because there is no guide line to follow for the black water line.
