Revell 1/72 Gato Class Submarine Build.

Made a start on this today, and the first thing needed was to work out how to get the very large box, into my small modelling cupboard.

After a lot of thinking and very careful surgery , needing delicate cutting with a large pair of pinking shears. I managed to separate it into two reasonable sized containers, taped up with only the best quality cellotape

Wonder if I can patent this idea to pass on to other modellers, it might just catch on.

There is a 20 page fully illustrated instruction book, 21 Grey plastic sprue's, 1 Clear plastic sprue, 12 Small metal steps, Cord, a Multi colour transfer sheet and a large sheet of assorted flags.

Couldn't fit all the pics on the first post, maybe because this is the largest part of the kit.

Remember there are still the bow & stern mouldings to attach to these sections.

Had an hour to spare this evening.

Not worked out how to tackle the hull yet, so started on the conning tower structure.

Had to remove several areas where photo-etch parts are going to be attached in their place.

Marked off the areas to be removed so as not to make any mistakes.

I always get nervous whe I have to start hacking into the plastic for PE replacements. Good idea about marking the area to remove. I do it when working with wood, but not plastic for some reason. I will start doing that from now on with plastic

Gregg, I had one of these to build, but when I saw just how big the final sub would be, I passed it on to our mate Andrew (Phalinmegob) when we met at Cosford earlier this year......

Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll do 'Gato' justice.

Thanks for the input guys, really struggling with PE (glad I didn't attempt the DR1)

Fingers not working properly and eyesight definitely needs sorting, so not a brilliant start to this build.

These are prior to cleaning up the excess glue etc.
