Finally picked up the courage to start opening up the main hull for access purposes.

This will give me an idea of the area available for the gubbins I need to put inside, to make it a working model. (I hope!)

Fettling the deck areas ready to fit the PE.

Filling in the gaps down the edges with plastic rod, where I had trimmed away a little too much.

Joined the stern decking to the middle section to make it one removable deck.

Well back on the build again, as I need to do as much as I can for the next couple of months.


Just found out the shoulder problem I have been seeing the physio for the last 2 years for, needs replacing.


Bit of a shock, but hey-ho that's life.


Having now decided to build as a dynamic diver, I have increased the area of the diving planes by 30% on advice from others who have converted this kit.


A combination of plasticard and green stuff used for this. (Apparently if left scale size they don't bite enough to push the hull under)


The PE decking is now permanently fitted to the upper hull sides, a lot harder than I thought it would be to achieve. Hopefully when painted it will be worth the effort.


No decision yet on whether to fit the PE Side Hinge Plates, but as they contain a lot of detail left off the kit parts I will probably persevere.

Such a lovely day today, took the bits outside to blow a little paint on.


A coat of primer filler to show up any imperfections ( of which there are many) so I know where any filler needs to be applied.


Must admit fairly satisfied with the PE decking, just needs a little fettling.

Knocking on with this now.


Got started on the area I have been putting off for a while, the 'Eduard' PE hull side plates.


First time I have tackled any PE this big, took 4hrs just to fold the starboard plates. & get them to lay without forcing.(double curvature)


Temporarily held on with masking tape until I can get some Cyano Gell (do you sell it John)


Some areas need to be trimmed to go around fixtures & holes for other parts.


Starting on the other side tonight.

Cyano Gell glue turned up today, so hoping to make the PE side-plates secure this weekend.


Also couldn't resist getting a couple of cheap airbrushes off the net, £5.50 & £8.20 (postage included) to mess about with.


Although I have a Badger & a Miji used in my past profession, I still use hairy sticks on my models.


I will give these a try to see how they fair against my old ones.
