Camera memory was running short or I'd have taken more! This is the USS Drum, at Battleship Park near Mobile, Alabama.

Really helpful, thank you Pete. Quite glad I'm not trying to build the torpedo room there!!

Thanks all for the help with the reference material, been a massive help. I think I have finished tinkering with the internals. Have just given it a primer coat to see what it will look like all in one shade. If happy, it will get an off white coat, and then I can add in the kit parts and wire them up. Almost a shame to paint in my eyes.

That looks excellent Jack. Absolutely believable to me. All you need to do now is paint it and keep the texture and detail visible

Well nearly managed to ruin it…I really dislike Mig paints, never been able to get results. But, I had the colour, so thought I would give them another go. Spent ages playing with paint, thinner and pressure, putting paint to plastic when thinking I had the right combination when splat…a huge spurt if paint coughed out the airbrush. Cleaned it all out, re-mixed and supposedly found the sweet spot again, and it happened again. Thankfully, the second time on paper.

Managed to wrestle it round to get a decent coverage eventually, but all the Mig paints I own will be going into the bin so I won’t be tempted again. It’s almost certainly user error, but I have errors with them every time. I’ll stick with Tamiya and MRP through the airbrush. I’m hoping when it dries, the definition between the wires re-appears.

Wow, I hope that works out……looks like it should, but you shouldn’t have that much stress from simply spray painting something. Some paint ranges seem entirely unfit for purpose to me :fearful:

I've had trouble with MIG paints as well. Never again.

Brilliant work Jack, that's a load of detail in there and totally convincing .

Seems to me most paints have user problems, think one of the problems with lumps spitting out is to keep the top of the bottle absolutely clean. Even then any small amount of paint left in the nozzle tip can dry out and then unfortunately land in the paint cup or where ever it's mixed . Speaking from experience !

Just caught up with this jack , superb work mate . Your many additions have really lifted it to another level , what were the kit makers thinking leaving it so bare ? keep it up its going to look amazing and so different . Cheers tony
