Shocking truly shocking ! I mean they have stated it costs £50,000 to look after in memorial terms that's quite low and we must really be up the creak if we have save this amount of money not to mention the disrespect shown to those who gave their lives for every single person who is born in this country

    It's a disgrace!

No civilised nation should or need to go to war, however we do-millions have been spent on overseas action with very little return after we have left. It is encouraging that people do not want war or see it as important-maybe there is hope in the future. But, we should not forget the sacrifices made to keep tyranny and evil at bay-by doing this the very services are snubbing their fellow flyers, sailors, naval and all persons that gave down their lives to help a nation they now live in. That is wrong.

Does she even know what the Battle of Britain was ? Useless politician.

Just a thought, we've now left Afghanistan, that's going to save millions a year, there you go my dear, problem solved, use some of that money. Why didn't she think of that ?

I think this is a case of positive discrimination and she got the job because she's a woman and not because she can actually do the job

This is a quote from a serving officer on the 'RAF Banter & Bollocks Comments Site'

'Maybe they can sell the £14k golf simulator built at Cranwell to help pay for the Chapels upkeep, the priorities of the MoD are f#####d up.'

Makes you wonder were the money is really being spent!

Yeah, that is a shocker. If I were a UK citizen I'd be onto that petition in a flash.

Defying the wartime leader's express wishes, defence chiefs have decreed that the £50,000- a-year cost of running St George's Chapel of Remembrance is an 'inappropriate' use of resources.

I'd say their wages are an inappropriate use of resources if this is how they try to balance their books. The memorial not only includes the names of British, but also of those from the many other nations, from which came men and women who contributed to the freedoms which you all enjoy today. If this is truly the attitude by the UK defence chiefs and MOD towards the memorial , then I suggest that not one of them is worthy of the uniform or post which they hold.

It would be good if Queen Elizabeth could offer something towards it.

The UK is an embarrassment when it comes to things like this - I know that servicemen & women in other countries don't have to deal with stuff of this nature.

But when we have an MoD who can't supply boots, working guns, body armour, decent rations, phases out the Nimrod .... I could go on!

I've signed the petition & even though I'm not working atm, I'd contribute to any appeal that might be set up.

Just signed the petition now, this is a bloody outrage and a disgrace, no disrespect meant but who cares if the RAF personnel use it or not it is a war memorial as decreed by Winston Churchill, I hope that the families of the men and women inscribed on it's walls have something to say about this, we are closing down war memorials now because they cost too much bloody politicians and there penny pinching, try cutting the unemployment budget and use the money from that.

I've seen on Facebook this morning that the story is an exaggeration of the facts , apparently the mod don't want to close it but want to look for further funding and they said that no reporter or news paper has contacted them for the facts

Still it doesn't say they won't close as it depends on if they get funding

I think it's disgraceful that this is even under consideration. I think this is exactly the sort of thing that most tax payers don't mind funding. Why should it have to be funded in some other way? Heaven knows enough of our money gets wasted on things we'd rather not fund.

Even SWMBO, whose knowledge of the BoB is based on the film and being dragged around the memorial at Capel le Ferne by yours truly, was disgusted by the story.

What would happen if someone decided to pull down Nelson's column to save a bit of cash and cleaning off the pigeon shit?

                              Cheers
