    Shep Paine

Good afternoon everyone I have just had a quick look around the forum and can't see that anybody else has reported this but sadly Shep was admitted to hospital having suffered a stroke on 29/07/2015, there is a report on another forum that he passed away 01/08/2015 a very sad day for the modelling community and the loss of an inspirational modeller my thoughts are with his family.

Tis a sad day. Sheperd Paine was a fantastic sculptor and modeller, with exceptional skills.

It was Shep Paine's dio build that came in a booklet with the Monogram 1/48 B-17 that opened my eyes to the possibility of doing more than just ' making models '. Thankfully, no photographic evidence of my attempts to re-create his excellent work exists!

A sad day when a pioneer of model making leaves us.

My experiences of shep paines work are exactly the same as patricks , it was a booklet showing tips on how to create a dio that came in a monogram b25 mitchell kit . I too was gobsmacked and never really knew anything like this could be done so i guess he inspired me to think about stuff like this .(actually thirtyy odd years later ive still got the booklet!! Ill post it up as a tribute) a sad loss to the hobby .RIP. and thanks Shep

Can I please recommend anyone who has never seen Shep's work to google him and look at his gallery pages, I cannot emphasise the quality of his work and the way he stretched the boundaries of modelling during his life. A sad loss

                regards Jim
