I think it would be nice to see some 1/72 modern British military vehicles seeing as how Airfix recently produced their Herrick range and the WW2 bomber resupply set. There are lots of modern jets in their range these day and a bedford 4 tonner is just not suitable as a refueller.

But Airfix are hostage to what sells and i am sure that they will produce a new Buccaneer sooner or later given the wishlists that I see. The new Sea King in the pipe looks a cracker, but does any one believe that they only LIDAR scanned a mk4? That HAR3 could do with an update too.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

If they did some 1/35 armour or even broke into the 1/48 armour market iam sure they would have many more people buy from airfix but heh ho, the armour they do is too small for me to see to build it that's why I will go to other manufacturers as iam sure many do.

They do a Warrior in 1/48, but it is meagre pickings, this true.

Yummy! Though at £55, it's handy that I've got a year to save up for it!

Didn't I read somewhere that one of the chief designers of the Victor was a German who previously worked for Heinkel?

That Victor is going to make a great companion to the Vulcan.

Shame really, i jave had bad experiences with airfix, albeit the old tooling model kits, which out me off.

What puts me off more is that its all aircraft. I guess reading what folk have put, theyre more interested in making as much money as they can which is buisness. But surely, theres still money to be made from other genres of model kits?

I mean, if it was only planes that made money, then folk like Tamiya, Revell, Academy, Italeri would all have been out of buisness years ago. So the rationale the airfix marketing people have employed is, to me, rather single minded.

but maybe they are trying to be the dominant Brand name in that area.

if someone says Hornby to me, i instantly think of trains. if someone says Tamiya, i think Models, which has a broad spectrum. Perhaps in time, if someone says Airfix, they will instantly think Planes. Maybe they already do.

So maybe not such a bad market strategy after all.

A 1/48th Defiant and a 1/48th Meteor both look very interesting as well. I like the engine with the Meteor.
Yes I like the look of the Meteor too Richard.

Airfix don't do much other than aircraft & their attempts at armour have been pretty diabolical!

However, they've clearly found some decent capital through being owned by Hornby. Although lacking in detail & some modern facets like engraved panel lines, many older Airfix kits build up well - Ian's recent Meteor is a good example.

But it would take a lot of investment to break into the 1/35 armour market - Tamiya, Dragon, Academy et al have that one sown up tight.

For me, I'm very glad Airfix are doing well. I still get a nostalgia kick from seeing that old logo on a new kit.

In the last few months Airfix released a new Crusader III tank at 1:32 scale and I'm not sure if they announced its arrival or not. But if they didn't, there may be some hope for some new cars and tanks into next year at some point
