Iconic aircraft?. Well the mk14 is missing from their comprehensive range of 1/48 Spitfires. Could it be one of those?. And as for a new 1/24 kit. Well the ancient Spitfire kit needs updating......

I would think that they have a 1/24 on the way. Telford seams to be their launch pad for those. As to what it is? If there was a few more pointers it might make it easier to guess.

Iconic.... WWII? cold war? British, German....US, Japanese.....My only guess is it will be an aircraft that will sell and they will have options to use the same main tools to do another version later....Fw190?

Airfix seem quite focussed on aircraft with a strong British connection, my guess would be a Vulcan or even C130 Hercules as these have been in service with the RAF for years and the possibility of diversifying into other air forces could keep a new tool version in the sales charts for a very long time. Other likely options could be a Buccaneer or Phantom. We can but dream!

I hope we are talking 1/48 here..... ! A brick or a spook in 1/24 would be just a bit big for me. (and a lot of others I bet).

A lot of folk are assuming that the big announcement will be a 1/24 scale aircraft but I'm not convinced, their big announcement last year was a 1/72 Victor. I know they brought another 1/24 Typhoon but that was hardly a big surprise.

A 1/72 Avro Manchester would be a good addition to their British bomber range. Can't understand why they've ignored it for so many years.Id like one in 1/48.Fat chance!.

I'm not sure if this is the "iconic" aircraft that Airfix are referring to but in this month's AMW the free calendar has a Shackleton AEW2 for June's picture.

There is a box art painting of a MK XIX in AMW's 2017 calendar, your wish might come true.

It has to be said that there is a need for a British Phantom but in 1/72?  Even I may have been interested at 1/48 and I don't do aircraft.  Yes I know there are loads of people who build 1/72, I am not knocking it as a scale at all, we have all probably cut our teeth on it and it is a great scale, just might have gone for it in 1/48, same feelings about the 262.....  You cannot blame Airfix for playing safe I suppose, they have teetered on the edge of destruction so often they are not in a place to do niche market subjects yet.

                            Its a 1/72 scale... Bugger!
Still they might turn up the scale factor at a later date. One of the good things about CAD designs. They are scaleable at the push of a button. If the detail is up to it....

I'm not sure it's that easy. I think it was Airfix themselves that said you can't simply go up a scale from '72 to '48. The reason was something like there was a lot of detail not included in a '72 model, but could, and should, be present in a '48 scale model.

I would certainly have been interested in a new tool phantom at 1:48 scale. It's a nice big jet though, so I'm sure that even at 1:72 it will provide decent scope for modelling. They've brought out a few nice 1:48 subjects recently, so I can't really complain.

Not to worry, though, their 1:48 Ju87 is due out very soon and I'm looking forward to building that.
