    Spitfire over my house

A Spitfire just flew directly over my house! (10.40)
I couldn't identify it, just a well known silhouette against a grey sky, though it was quite low.
I'm in south Birmingham and I suppose there must be something going on nearby to explain its presence.
Still, a wonderful sight and sound.

I think there's a replica PRU Spit doing flypasts to raise money for NHS Charities.

It would have been this one:

It's as originally built in late 1944 as a PR XI.

The time fits in exactly with today's schedule, it was headed towards the QE.

There’s a two seater that flies out of Goodwood which is close to where I live and I always stop to watch or listen if I can.
Such an unmistakeable sound. Never fails to lift my spirits.

I saw this yesterday too ! I was delivering to cheltenham about 11-11.30 and saw the unmistakeable silhouette of a spit , then noticed the “ thank u nhs “ script underneath . So whos going to be the first to attempt it in model form !?

I've seen pictures of the Thank U NHS underside profile. A nice tribute to the health workers. And a wonderful machine to do it on too! Very British.

Think we as very lucky living in the south of the county, we often have fly overs of some of the BBMF on their way to shows. That sound of the Merlin engine causes a rush into the garden every time.

Closest I got was when I heard the Lossiemouth Typhoons do this, but there was a low cloud and mist so I couldn't see them. My bosses mum, I was at work and we had started prepping a new patio area, was a bit shocked when I said what the noise was and what was probably happening, a lot of people don't realise this sort of thing goes on.

We may have also permanently lost the Airwaves airshow in Portrush, it was said to be cancelled this year before Covid-19 became an issue due to the council being £72m in debt.

I forget how lucky I am living where I do. My office is in Dover and Home Hythe with the Battle of Britain Memorial in the cliffs half way between the two.

I frequently see Spitfires overhead in the spring and summer and, sometimes even a Hurricane if I get very lucky.

There are companies who do flights over the White Cliffs either back-seating in a two seat Spitfire conversion or in an observation aircraft flying alongside Spitfires that fly around you.

Actually had to 'Give Way' to a spit while driving a lorry for a living - he'd just landed and was taxi-ing off the runway as I was ready to leave, another time, I had a delivery actually for the company, so got to look round the workshop where they restored them - nice to behold up close!
