    Unveiling of the SU-75

Friend had a close encounter with Russia's potential new jet.

Hi, just as it says above, a modelling friend from our Scale Modelling Malaysia chapter recently shared images of him at the Moscow Air show. Colonel Sebastian was invited as he is the AirForce Military Attache from our country to Moscow stationed there for the next two years I think. If you remember back in 2013 he was instrumental in getting the chapter to the Kuantan Airbase to display our models during the airforces celebrations. He was then a Major and CO for the Smokey bandits flying the MIG-29's display team.

Arrived late at the base and did a quick tour of the parked aircraft with Sebastian...a Hawk, F-18 and Sukhoi next to each other...the last time the big three sat together was in Teheran I think. Next day went to work with getting the local kids interested in modelling then watched the air display and finally group pictures with the Sukhoi. How time flies and seven years has passed.

Above is a picture of his aircraft in the hangar then caught on camera buzzing I think was the USS Ronald Reagan. Back to present day, some pictures at the Moscow show and in the cockpit of the SU-75. Obviously many of us couldn't resist poking fun at him that he'll be under pressure to sell the aircraft. It's a prototype he says and still in development and that's not a mock up he's sitting in but a work in progress prototype.

Here is the link to the YouTube video of the launch of the SU-75

Although I'm not into jets but it's nice to know someone who's not just a modelling friend but also a pilot that flies front line jets.

    Cheers,
    Richard

He didn't stay for the full show and wasn't keen on the air displays as he said all Russian air displays follow the same routine and manouvers as his Mig29's did in LIMA so was off to St Petersburg for a Naval review...my...loads of images of the fleet including one restored sailing man of war.

          Cheers,
          Richard

Don't know what it is but i always seem to think that the Sukhoi aircraft ever since the Su-27 Flanker just look 'right'. It's a love affair i've had with them ever since having the privilege to meet and watch the Russian Knights with their Su-27 Flanker B

Yup that Su-27 did make a good impression to a lot of modelers here.

Yes Steve, apparently he also has the distinction of surviving a crash by ejecting. Has his name on the wall at Martin Baker with the rest of the club.

Yes Tony, a lucky man. I think there are the tail art decals done locally for that particular aircraft and the Bandits.

I'd prefer if it were props and WW2 aircraft, Tim. Don't see any in this part of the world.

              Cheers,
