Namesake Yamato Province, and an archaic name for Japan

Cultural significance
From the time of their construction, Yamato and her sister Musashi carried significant weight in Japanese culture. The battleships represented the epitome of Imperial Japanese naval engineering, and because of their size, speed, and power, visibly embodied Japan's determination and readiness to defend its interests against the Western Powers and the United States in particular. Shigeru Fukudome, chief of the Operations Section of the Imperial Japanese Navy General Staff, described the ships as "symbols of naval power that provided to officers and men alike a profound sense of confidence in their navy."[56] Yamato's symbolic might was such that some Japanese citizens held the belief that their country could never fall as long as the ship was able to fight.[57]
Decades after the war, Yamato was memorialised in various forms by the Japanese. Historically, the word "Yamato" was used as a poetic name for Japan; thus, her name became a metaphor for the end of the Japanese empire.
I understand that the kit will have brass gun barrels as an option, so an am set of those won’t be needed. A nice Quinta Studios cockpit set will be nice though.
I think they figure that Japan is a very big market for something like this. But I agree with you that it’s just another [name here] that’s been done to death already.
As with any product it’s set by the importer, I know it’s not cheap for them to bring in, and the retail margins are much lower than normal, based on normal margins this should have been closer to £720
1/32 Avro Lancaster B.Mk.I/III Full Interior BF010 Border Model Scale Model Shop UK, 5* Customer Service, Fast Delivery, Reward points on every order
Hi Guys
just to put this price into some sort of perspective; I was in my local model shop (I'm lucky we have on in Guernsey!), half of the shop is set over to models , the other half to Lego, and he told me about the new Lego Titanic - £500! i am sure the time it takes to build the Titanic would be far less than the Lanc so all of a sudden the £600 price tag for the Lancaster starts to seem quite reasonable.
