I'm sure we have a 'Spots on the Internet' thread for this type of thing?
Doooo it! He who hesitates is lost - no guts, no glory etc! And would you deny your fellow forum acolytes the drool factor of vicariously watching your build!
Steve
Well, my kit has arrived. And, by coincidence, a Lancaster flew over Pontefract park this afternoon. I’m taking it as a sign!
I’m now studying the many variations in equipment used on the Lancaster throughout it’s operational history. This will help me decide on a which airframe to model.
The kit itself is impressive, the box less so and lead to a couple of breakages of parts during transit. This is a much publicised issue and was resolved very quickly by the UK importer. I think this may be the same issue John eluded to earlier in this thread.
Anyhoo, I cannot wait to start this kit. I think it rates (at least in the box) as the the best plastic kit I’ve ever owned. I hope I can do it justice.
Cheers
Paul
BTW. If useful, I’m happy to do a review of the sprues but a build maybe some way off as I’m busy building 5 1/24 Dr.1s at the mo.
Do what I did Paul. Check the sprue with the cockpit framing as in some boxes it is broken (mine is OK). Secondly check the transparencies over as well. I am not particularly happy with mine, after a quick look, due to the amount of distortion on some parts. I plan to take a closer look tomorrow and decide what to do.

Hi Barry
I’ve been through all that. Got replacements sent very quickly. Simply put, the box isn’t big enough for the kit - hence the breakages.
Sprues, B, C1 and C2 are the sprues particularly effected. The replacements were sent very quickly and I have nothing but praise for the UK importers. All this is pretty old news now as this issue has been all over the forums.
Not to drag this out, but last weekend while at the WME, I had a nice chat with a seller from Albion Alloys who are the importer's for Border Models. He came late to the show because they had received a 40 ft. container of the Lancaster kits at their warehouse. He had pictures on his cell phone of the delivery and how they had to stack all the master cartons on Euro pallets from it. The pallets were about 2 meters high and in the one picture, there were ten of them on each wall in the doorway. He told me that after emptying the container onto pallets, they had to start making the orders for the hobby shops to be shipped all over the UK. He said it was a massive and long job doing it and then afterwards he could finally drive to Holland to the show. He didn't mention how many kits were received, but it looked to be well over 2000 pieces. I only wish I could have gotten copies of his pics to post here. The cheapest price I saw was a Dutch hobby shop seller and he was selling it for €640 at the show....................................
That's interesting Allen. I suppose it is a unique model in many ways. Wingnut Wings going out of business, all the speculation about what would happen to all the moulds, especially this Lancaster. Follow that with months of rumour and wondering and then suddenly it's here and all over the internet and the modelling press.
For Barry and Paul and many others it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. If your estimate of over 2000 kits is right and that can be repeated many times over throughout the world then there's a lot of modellers with lighter wallets who are now building extensions to their benches :hugging-face: :smiling:
My Lancaster arrived last Thursday 7th July 2022 I have had a look at the sprues they look good to me I do find that the lack of colour call outs annoying to say the least and the instruction manual despite what reviewers have said still needs a complete rewrite with more diagrams aside from that this is probably the best plastic kit I have owned in terms of quality detail etc I just hope I can do it justice
I do hope, noting all these Lancaster models being delivered, that we see an actual blog!, and see what the hype was all about.......
I wonder how many of these models were bought as investment, or when arrived, realisation that it was beyond the purchasers skill?

I hope to see at least one blog as well. However, those are valid reasons for not starting, or owning, the kit Dave. As would be buying the kit as a starter modeller, hoping you can one day do it justice. After all, it their money, they can do what they like with it.
SO so far 3 guys have bought it Barry- Paul -an colin am i right guys as yes love to see someone built it as a blog on here come on you guys lets see it
chrisb
Having invested heavily in this kit I can fully appreciate that choosing the right time to build their "once in a lifetime" Lancaster has to be given careful thought.
But being rather selfish I would really love to see one built and blogged on here :smiling: :thumb2::hugging-face:
