Here’s a quick look at mine as you can see it’s crammed in there but with a little of bubble wrap and foam packaging as I’ve said there’s no colour call outs in the instructions and some of the diagrams in the instructions are in need of embellishment as to what part goes where and how it’s orientated
So I need to do some serious research on this before I even think about starting to build it

I have found this link to a guy in Canada who has built the HK 1/32 no it’s not the Boder Models Lanc but you want to see what he has made besides that I believe it’s an accurate colour rendition to boot

        Regards

        Colin

        Here’s the link

I don't think a glass of wine to celebrate is really appropriate - at least a bottle (or two!) Superb!

Here is my 1st serious look at the instructions to the Border Model Lanc it has a weird coiled shaped flow pattern to it as you can see from the yellow highlighter this is photo copy so as not to destroy the original
The rough notes are just some ideas for base colours nothing to fancy yet DB stands for dry brushing
You also get the option of 2 seats one with moulded in seat belts which look utterly brilliant or the more traditional plain seat and the pe seatbelts so you can try either and if one goes wrong you have a fallback from the looks of it
Me I’m going to try the moulded version 1st as I hate pe belts don’t get me wrong this is just a preliminary look at the kit nothing will be done till I’m ready and I have HMS Hood to finish off 1st

I’m thinking of it this kit deserves something like that will need to source the extras steady warm light leds for lighting could probably use ardwino board to control the whole shooting match but as I’ve never done anything like this before it will be a learn as we go

Chris can help with that. there is a shop that makes custom light controllers and wirelooms for models. Think they where originally a dolls house place. The Model ship builders use them a lot. I cant recall the name but am sure that mr HMS Tiger can tell you.

I wonder why the manufacturer didn't consider rectangular boxes and numbering for their instruction manual.

You can buy the same kit as the Canadian guy used for around £149.00 from Magic Scale Modelling this comes complete with no electronics knowledge required looks like a plug n play my main concern is would it work for the Border Model Lanc as it looks like that kit has been built specifically for the HK kit the engines in particular where the internals of each are totally different to each the Border kit has internal structure whereas the HK does not

I may have a go at the electrics. I think there probably is a way of hiding the wiring in the Border Lancaster. Also, the border Lancaster gives the option of not using the engines within the nacelles therefore making it easier to fit the motors for the props.

I know this sounds crazy, but I have 2 of these kits now. One of these I plan to build with engines stripped, hatches open etc. to show off the detail. The other I think I'm going to try something different. I think I may finish the other in flight over a cityscape being bombed - complete with crew (I'll sculpt the crew myself). This will obviously be the version with the electrics. I can then light the cityscape with explosions and light the underside of the flying Lancaster with the red glow of the burning city.

Does this sound like a plan? Would anyone like to see this? I'm genuinely asking.
I don't want this build to be gimmicky, I genuinely want to portray that night bombing atmosphere. If I can get a sound chip with the engine drone and possibly the faint crump of bombs hitting their mark that would be the icing on the cake. I will be mindful that the Lancaster is the star of the show and all the electrical stuff is just incidental but I think it would be interesting seeing the bomber demonstrating it's purpose

I'm finishing five Fokker Dr.1s at the mo. Once they're finished then I'm turning my attention to the Lancs (hopefully this year). I will post a build Log on the forum and everyone can judge for themselves whether the model lives up to the hype or not.

Looking forward to seeing both Barry and Colin's Border Lancs and sharing any tips or foibles with the kit.

                          Cheers
                          Paul
