    Forum hacked

Some people may have noticed that when they logged on the forum had been hacked, I have restored the last backup with was 2am 29th so all posts made after that will have been lost, I am looking in to how they got access to the site and will hopefully stop them from doing it again.

I hope you manage to sort out the problems with those hackers! I noticed something about Muslim Holy War - Looks like they took a dislike to Scale Modeling websites for some bizarre reason!

If you read it all they go on about all US sites and sites that have .co.uk and other western extensions

I wondered what the hell had gone on when I started up earlier as I use the forum as my home page. I thought my own computer had been hacked at first.

What worries me is that if they can get into something like a forum with all it's security levels what chance do I have?

NONE. Internet providers are "hacking" all the time in their clients computers. Many others are spying silently your computer. It's nothing new. I saw once a photo of a monument, that i have taken myself, on a Russian internet site. They had stolen it from my computer. What a coincidence, huh?

A huge computer company (no names) is monitoring computers all around the world. I have a friend working there that asured me this is true.

          Sorry for spelling errors.

Nice work taking regular backups John.

this kind of thing happens all the time unfortunatey. We had our company website hacked a few months ago. All it takes is a small programme which continuously tries passwords and user names. They will eventually get through. It is just a matter of time. The longer and more complex the password the longer it takes to crack.

So long as you did not keep any personal info on your host, i wouldnt sweat it to much.

            Pain in the arse though..

you need to watch for any errant code in the html that they may have left enabling them to walk straight back in.

I received an update email saying there had been a reply to my SE5a thread. It was from “Dr Abdula” and all it said was “Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii”.

Did anyone else get this update email?

I suspect this could well have been something to do with the idiot hacker.

When I logged in and saw the website I immediately shut down then ran AVG anti virus and anti spyware but my computer is clean

That was the guy, it looks like he had to post before being able to make the template changes, as far as I can see he was not able to access the server or any files on it

I suppose he just chose a thread at random, perhaps the SE5a because it seems to be popular. So at least I wasn’t personal!

I’ll re-post the bits that have been deleted.

                    HI

I doubt it even had anything to do with a holy war its more likely a spotty teenager and his mates looking to spoil some ones day.

Sadly the world has its fair share off a** holes and we just had one come for a visit.

                    cheers kevin

Thanks John for the getting the forum up and running so quickly.

Pity these people don't put the talents they have to a more productive use,

                          John

I used the gallery to upload a photo. Is it just coincidence or could it be something to do with my thread / computer?

It's just a coincidence it's nothing to do with your thread, everyone's pictures are still there so will still show in the posts, I will work something out for uploading new pictures

OK that's put my mind at rest; it was just with me getting that first email from Dr Abdula and then it happening again after I'd uploaded a photo.
