Hachette To Launch 1/32 Scale Dam Buster Lancaster

So what’s the general opinion on this will it be any good accurate correctly detailed and coloured motorised and as good as the Border Models Lancaster it certainly looks the part and will feature a dam buster version along with a diorama of the dam from what I’ve seen of it they released a wooden model back about 12 years ago and I thought was a pretty good representation of the plane it did need some scratch building for the interior detailing & the engines but overall very good so this new version could be a winner if they get it right

Is it a new version or just a re-release?
And how much will it cost all in?

My guess is 120 to 140 Partworks judging by their last release in my case the Titanic at around £12.00 an issue so you are looking at £1200 to £1500 and it’s brand new in metal abs and plastic with motorised propellers etc according to the advertising blurb

Wait for the plastic one. For the price of the hatchet job you can buy three of the border ones...

Part Works don't appeal to me at all - not only is it the cost, but the commitment for over a year or three, waiting to finish a single model isn't my idea of fun

Same, I want to have all the bits from the start, partly also as I have a habit of not following the instruction sequence much at all.

Didn't one of the partworks publishers go bust a few years ago, leaving many subscribers unable to finish their models after about a year?

Oh great I’ve got 4 Del Prado models to build HMS Victory which is flawed because of the inaccuracies ie is it 4 or 5 lifeboat skids when there should be 6 etc Cutty Sark hopefully accurate The Bounty and Endeavour

                  Regards

PS I’ve tried to include the Hachette official launch video for the lancaster but there’s no way to do so if you want to see it check this out

I've got the Partwork Lanc, partially built, with a LOT of extra work put into it. It was indeed Hachette and about 110 parts. Cost over two years was over a grand, this was six-or-seven years ago, so now? Maybe 10? That's TWO 'Wingnut' Lancs sure, but you have to order them specially.
Or three HK ones I guess?

Good things about the beast? All the formers, ribs and stringers were separate pieces. Bad things? I refer you to my previous statement!
The skin was actually sheet aluminium, and there was a scriber tool for adding rivet detail.

I was intending to back date mine to one of the first three in service with, ooh, 47 Squadron. So Ineeded to add the ventral 'dustbin' turret.
I was also intending to do it as a 'cutaway' job to show the interior
Oh, I should also say the markings were for PA474, the BBMF Lanc

I can post some pics of how far I got if anyone wants more info. That is NOT a Hachette sales pitch!

I too have that same kit I found the worst part was the engine mountings the engines were made of metal and too heavy for the supporting wooden structure and frequently broke to point in the end I gave up with it
I still have the whole kit admittedly in several parts such as the front fuselage cockpit area all 4 engines the undercarriage sections the bomb bay & the wings partially skinned with the aluminium and riveted which gave a sort of wrinkled skin affect more or less resembling the Border Models version of today and I heavily scratched built more detailing as per I think is was a person called Matt Black or similar I believe he resides on this modelling forum as he showed you how to customise the James Bond 007 DB5 another Partworks publication

                        Cheers Colin

I hated the metal engine mounts because they wer so hefty and didn't have the right holes in them. A professional modelmaker mate of mine tried to drill them out to accurize them, but whatever they're made of wouldn't drill!

I was only going to mount one engine anyway cowlings open anyway, but I should have guessed it would be to heavy. I've acquired other better parts, like gun barrels, so maybe I'll find an aftermarket resin Merlin replacement. If I ever get back to the thing

Glad though I'm not the only one had a go at it

I'll do a WIP over in the Aviation thread, rather than clog it up here
