New icons explanation

You will noticed that there are 4 new icons under every post, these are for Digg, del.icio.us, technorati and furl, for those that don't know, this is a brief explanation that I found about digg but they are all the same.

    What is Digg?

Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won’t find editors at Digg — we’re here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we’re changing the way people consume information online.

How do we do this? Everything on Digg — from news to videos to images to Podcasts — is submitted by our community (that would be you). Once something is submitted, other people see it and Digg what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see.

And it doesn’t stop there. Because Digg is all about sharing and discovery, there’s a conversation that happens around the content. We’re here to promote that conversation and provide tools for our community to discuss the topics that they’re passionate about. By looking at information through the lens of the collective community on Digg, you’ll always find something interesting and unique. We’re committed to giving every piece of content on the web an equal shot at being the next big thing.

I use Digg as an example but they are all the same basically "Social Networking Sites". So if you are reading a post here at scale-models and you think that other people would be interested in it you can "DIGG" it and submit it to their website where a much larger audience will be able to view it.

So you say why would I want to do that? Well in reality you probably don't have any good reason to do this other than out of the goodness of your heart. You see the idea behind it is to share content between many different websites. So if scale-models gets listed on that site it will drive many visitors to our website, hopefully we will have some people sign up and become members and we will continue to grow. It doesn't hurt to mention the fact that it helps our search index ratings with the major search engines like google, msn, yahoo and such which again will drive traffic to our website.

So please take the time to register with these sites and submit threads, even if it's only your own threads.

    Thanks

I think that this is a brilliant idea John, after all sharing is what the internet is all about, just think that if we all set aside a few minutes of our time to contribute something then it works both ways, very rarely these days do we place something into Google without getting some feedback or link ? so as you say through the kindness of our own hearts we enhance that experience and put something back, that cannot be a bad idea.
