I will be moving the forum to a new host and also having it migrated to a new platform, vbulletin, I'm not sure how long this will take, it will be within the next week or so and there will be downtime and maybe a couple of posts losts if they are replied to or created in-between the migration.Comment

You are running this forum as a service to its users. It probably started because you decided that you’d like to run a forum related to your hobby, but by now, it’s clearly a forum for other people to talk about that hobby, since you yourself hardly ever get involved anymore. I’d say (and you will likely disagree, as will the various people around here who clearly feel that the mods are always right) that this means it would be at least a courtesy to run major decisions about the future of the forum by us, rather than dictating from above that This Is How Things Will Be.
Sure, a lot of the regulars don’t care about the changeover, or won’t even be able to really tell the difference once it’s done. Good for them, I guess. But when somebody asks serious questions about the reasons and you just blow him off, IMHO this does not reflect well on you or the way you run things.
Had you just taken a little time to explain your reasons in response to my questions, I would probably have said, “Oh, OK. Maybe I don’t quite agree, but fine.” Now, you are just pissing me off by both the content and tone of your replies. I would like to stay here, because the other users in general are nice folks, but I’m now seriously debating whether I will.
Now I guess I’ll just wait for this message to get deleted, as messages of apparent criticism around here too often areComment

You’re right, running a model shop has spoilt the hobby for me, I spend all day dealing with models, talking about models, I don’t always feel like modelling when I get home, but I don’t see what that has to do with this.
Feel free to leave if you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to stayComment

What it has to do with it is that the decision to move from XenForo to vBulletin is based on your preference, when you in fact hardly use the forum anymore.
That will to a good degree be because they don’t know the first thing about the differences. I don’t claim to be fully versed in them, but I do know I have a preference for one over the other because I have a good deal of experience (almost certainly more than most people here) with both, as well as a number of other common forums. That is why I asked about the move, and why we’re having this discussion about the discussion now.
I’m pretty sure Coca Cola asked a representative sample of its customers before deciding to invest in selling it.Comment
