Forum moving

when you in fact hardly use the forum anymore.

I use the forum every day, just because I don’t post every day doesn’t mean I’m not here

I’m not continuing with this pointless conversation with you, are you staying or do you want to remove your account, because we won’t change how it is run and you clearly don’t like it.

I recently had a problem getting on the forum......3 daysof sending messages to the mods and no joy.......i ended up emailing the shop asking for help......15 minutes later it was all sorted!!....so he does keep a very active eye on the place

How john runs the forum is his to do as he pleases.......he can make the colours custard yellow and pink if he wants.......he could turn the default language to mandarin chinese if he wants..(or north korean lol).....or he could move it to an operating platform he prefers.....just cos he can

You dont own the forum......its an offshoot of johns shop......his to do as he pleases.......and if he switches it off cos you keep having a go at him then a lot of people are not going to be happy with you! Let it go and be thankful for what we have

Only if you make them whilst the move is happening......but you dont know when its happening....so perhaps best to hold off making any new threads til everything has gone through

I gave them a copy of the database yesterday so any post from then will be lost, but hopefully I will get a chance to give them a new one before they start, if they don’t do it soon I will make sure they have a new one.

Hell's bells Jakko stop getting so upset. When our other forum ended so abruptly we found a new home here and although I had joined before as can be seen , this has been a happy crowd of modelers .
The majority of us have no idea of how a forum works or the amount of time it takes to organise and run .
Where ever we have to go it's ok to me .
Just give John the support , after all if it wasn't for him where would we end up , on some nasty back biting forum !

running a model shop has spoilt the hobby for me, I spend all day dealing with models, talking about models, I don’t always feel like modelling when I get home

This is really sad, but inevitable. It's why I have never been tempted to turn something I love into a job. Thank goodness there are people around who are prepared to take that hit for our benefit. Thanks John.

I’m going to say it out loud: This forum is good despite the people who run it.

And this? This is gobsmackingly rude. We pay ten quid a YEAR for this service! (Less if you use the shop discount.) Seriously now - just keep it to yourself!

WTF? Just because I don’t say, “Yes, sir, I’m happy with that move to new forum, sir!” and he apparently doesn’t tolerate anyone questioning the decision, I’m the bad guy?

I’m not upset so much as annoyed, for the reason just above.

And that’s exactly why we’ve got this present discussion: I do have a fairly good idea how forum software works, which is why I’m not overjoyed at the move to a platform I consider not as good as the one we’ve been using. But questioning the plan is apparently major mistake.

It is? My experience with this forum is that it’s generally been quite enjoyable, but that the mods/admins crack down on that enjoyment more than they help it along. Yep, probably stood on a few more toes there, but IMHO it finally needed to be said.

You know, all of it’s bullshit. A tiny thing being blown out of all proportion in the way that forums often do because people aren’t talking to each other but just trying to get their own points across. All of this could have easily been avoided with a reply along the lines of, “Oh, good point, let’s consider that” — possibly without ever seriously doing so, but also without saying that you’re going to ignore it. You know, a diplomatic response rather than “I don’t care what you think, go away” repeated a few times in different words.

I want to stay, but given the way this has turned, I’m not sure I will. This is not a ragequit, but I certainly won’t be posting anything substantial until after the move because it may not even make it through the conversion. Whether or not I will after remains to be seen, I guess.

Despite all the comments, I back John all the way, sometimes you have to change to get a better deal. As JR said the old forum most of us belonged to folded without so much as a by your leave, just a Fffff you were off.
So John, you do what is best for the forum and if there are those that are not happy, then there is always Sh there I go again modeller.....
