I just got a pm from Barry about adding a map, and the really strange thing is I was just looking at something simular, if you look on the navbar you will notice Googlemap, here you can add your lattitude and longitude coordinates by zooming in on the map and finding where you live, this actully goes right down to street level, I know that most people won't want to put that much detail in but just your town would be fine then we have an idea where everyone comes from.

John this is uncanny, just added myself to the map,by the way it is exactly the same map as Google Earth, the strips denote the really detailed areas that have been already detail mapped from the air,you can go right down to your back yard if you want to in Leeds which has good coverage,I can see cars in driveways even, but Warwick is not so good for detail.
Have a go everyone and get your pin on the map,as John says you only need to put the town,if you really need to get your lonitude and latitude co-ordinates exactly then go to Multimap first,if you place your post code there it will automatically show your exact co-ordinates. -

Even though this facility is accessible through the forum it is just as powerfull as GoogleEarth itself.
Very interesting and it will be nice to see where people live. John could we put a shortcut to it in the new members sign up page?Comment

Phenomenal accuracy
Hello all, I might as well have put the pin prcisely on my shed/workshop :bravo: The accuracy is fantastic. Now you can see why I like boats as I look out onto the shipping lane serving Aberdeen harbour connecting to the rest of Europe and the Baltic Sea.
cheers

*** Jim,you lucky thing,if I lived where you are I would have a huge telescope set up to look out to sea,I would then sketch the ships and make watercolour drawings of them, what a paradise, instead I live right under Birminghams approach when the airliners fly in from the South, and look at the beautiful colourschemes through a pair of binoculars, make the most of it,how wonderful.

if it's the same, basically. as Google Earth, then small towns and villages just tend to be "blobs"Comment

It is the same as Google earth and like that it's not complete, the first time I ever looked at Google earth my street wasn't on it but it is now, I guess mapping the earth is quite a big jobComment

Where is Sweden?
Just added my marker to the Google map. If you zoom in on the map it doesnt go far but if you zoom in on the coordinates in the satalitte picture you can see the island I live on, off the coast of Gothenburg.Comment

Gothenburg was my first ever foreign port on my first ever trip to sea in 1977.
We actually had a few days there and we got to play a local team at football. Got thrashed but had a good time. In those days there were about 42 of us on the ship so not too many to pick a good team from.Comment

On there, looks to be about as far from an ocean as you can get, there is an inland waterway port about 60 miles south of me, mostly prairie to west, ozarks to the east, flint hills north, red hills of oklahoma south. Excellent view of wheat fields! and cows, cow patty bingo anyone?Comment
