Richard you must have sailed by the island I am living on, but I was'nt living there in 1977. From my veranda I can see many of the large ships sailing in and out of Gothenburg, but only partialy coz there's another island in the way. I can usually see the bridges of freighters; the type with a bridge on the 12th floor. The island that is in the way is called värgö which means "Wolf Island". The story goes many hundrds of years ago, that the water between the mainland and the Gothenburg's Southern Archipegilo froze. A wolf took a walk over the ice and when the ice melted he found himself living there! Wolfs were not and are not found in the archipegilo so he could'nt find a mate and his race died out with him. The island I live on is called Styrsö which means "Steering Island" which is just what it was - the boss island of the archipegilo. More interesting is the name of my village/harbour which is called Tången and it means "Seaweed". I don't know if the funny swedish letters show up on your'e screen, Swedish has 29 letters in it's alphabet and the three extra letters are relly hard to pronounce.
