Tamiya 1/72 De Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI/NF Mk.II

Along with my Eduard Hellcat, at the Australian model expo, I purchased Tamiya’s de Havilland Mosquito there for $15 (Australian dollars). Tamiya’s 1/72 De Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI/NF Mk.II came in a box with the single aircraft on the boxart and paints needed on the top side. Inside the box, you will find three packages of dark grey sprues with two sprues per bag. The sprues are clean and not greasy from any release agent and on first impression, it seems to be highly detailed. This kit allows for the fighter bomber and night fighter version.

The decals are not the best I have seen, and from experience, they will need 2 sessions of decal setting solution. Nice to see are seatbelt decals- a nice compromise to moulded on seatbelts which I detest and PE ones which can be costly for the manufacturer. These will brighten up the cockpit. However, eduard PE seatbelts can be sourced and if I build this, I will use that option. The Mosquito cockpit is highly detailed with nicely moulded on detail which will reflect nicely with some dry brushing. The exterior is highly detailed, following the wood frame of the mossie with some rivets in selected areas. This kit is highly recommended as it reflects the lines and shape of the DH Mosquito much better in this scale than I have ever seen. The airfix kit I personally think is pretty rubbish with the raised panel lines, virtually no cockpit detail and inaccurate props.

another nice review of the kit John, and i think you have done a very good job of it as ,if you were looking to buy a Mos, and did not know to much about them

by comparing the two kits i would go for the tamiya one, as having more detail and with out the raised rivets,

Probably only a matter of time before a new-tool Airfix Mosquito series comes out. But the Tamiya ones look to be very nice indeed. A good review John. I have the one described here and also the bomber Mk.IV from Tamiya in 1/72 scale. Both look to be very nice kits.
