    VMS Varnish.

We've all got our own bogeyman ,mine decals and varnish ,both developed to ruin all your hard work ,any way more and more of the weathering products ive been using really need the model to be sealed up to get the best from them and ease of use ,dont get me wrong ive got on fine without it finding my own way using these products. The problem or fear come to that was always you do all that work only to cover it with a splatter coat of varnish. Recently ive been using ammo's lucky varnish nothing good to say about it but nothing bad either. Then in a light bulb moment remembered I had a pot of the VMS satin varnish in the cupboard ,this i got from the SM Shop age's ago after watching a video on YouTube. Watching the vid for a second time on arrival of the varnish I thought no way (well not thoes words but you know) the fella absolutely lashes it on using a air brush no he lashes it on all the time assuring you it'll be alright on the night.
So current build had got to the varnish or not stage ,at this point the varnish was retrieved from the cupboard and the lable duly read ,no need to thin best results with a.4 needle ,now hold on .4 thats massive spray real things with that dont you. I'd taken delivery of a new airbrush in the week with a .3needle so a good excuse to give it a run out so with the memory of how he lashed it on threw caution to the wind . Oh I lashed I lashed for England all the time thinking all that work down the drain once on flipped a plastic takeaway container over the top as a dust cover cleaned out the AB and left the room.
Wow on return I was bowled over , I hope the pictures do this product justice

A perfect satin finish ,have no doubts its so easy to use you just lash it on straight out of the bottle ,well worth a blimp at the YouTube vid like I said not for the faint hearted ,wished I'd used it ages ago if the matt and gloss are as good then for those like me with a varnish fear no probs lash it on and carry on. Throughly recommended so easy to use. Dave.

Looks good Dave. Always nice to have another tool in the modelling paint box. I must admit, I still use Klear, which gives a great satin finish, but it seems to have fallen out of favour recently.

        Hi Dave
I have used VMS varnish and find it very good. I do thin it slightly. I rather like VMS products in general, the ones I've tried anyway.

I watched that same video but found the varnish clogged up the airbrush quite quickly (using a 3.0 needle) tried a 4.0 needle, still blocked after a bit.

Hi Del strange I used a 3 needle never had a problem blew it through at about 15 to 18 straight out of the bottle. Some times tip drying, clogging is caused by the way the airbrush is used it should I think be air on paint in paint off air off otherwise it causes a build up on the needle no doubt some one will put me right. Sorry it didn't work for you interesting to hear if anybody else has used it. Dave

Spot on Dave. Air on, paint on, paint off, air off, is the correct sequence…..

                Hi Dave

Was it a Night Shift video you watched? I know he loves it and the first time I saw him use it and he said it has go on thick, against everything I've been taught, I thought really???? And then he put it on....it was virtually swimming in it and yet dried beautifully.

                ATB.

Actually, I started using it last year after years of hearing people use it when I came back to the hobby and have never regretted it....... And certainly a lot cheaper than propriety varnishes.

Air on paint paint off air off is how I've always used my airbrush, I have all the VMS varnishes as I use a lot of their other products, just couldn't get the varnish to flow freely. I'll give it another go.

The problem I found with some varnishes was even after the shaking and lately the vortex mixer they would have white lumps in and block up the ab. Thinning and thoroughly mixing did stop this ,recently started to use AK 3 gen and not had a problem.
I've used plenty of VMS products and found them worth the money , might now be tempted to try the varnish .
