Revell is perhaps the oldest kitmaker in the world, founded in the USA in 1945 ( or 1943 ). They have had a chequered last few years, their parent company Hobbico going bust in 2018. The name and assets were acquired, and now operate out of Germany. They produce a huge number of models in all scales - some really ancient, some new, and they rebox a lot of smaller makers kits ( ie ICM )
They have always been perceived at the lower end of accuracy, maybe aimed at the younger market. That's rather unfair, as some of their models are very good!
The Gannet was a carrier based Ant-Submarine aircraft, operated mainly by the RN, but also Australia, Indonesia & West Germany.
There were several variants, including the AEW.3 radar version.
There have been several 1/72 models of the Gannet ( I made the Sword 1/72 Gannet AEW.3 last year ). The most common is the venerable Frog model, which has been reboxed many times - including by Revell. HOWEVER the subject model has absolutely no connection with the very crude version. The Gannet AS ( 04367 ) was new tooling in 2008, the Gannet T.5 ( 04845 ) arriving in 2013

The usual flimsy end opening Revell box - I would say universally disliked!
Sprue shots:

The sprues are generally OK, there are some flash areas, sinks & ejector pin marks, but nothing major. Oddly the plastic is a strange off white colour, I thought it was grubby, but nope, that's the colour.

Nice decals
Instructions
A4 fold out sheets - line diagrams - look pretty clear.

Two marking options, one West German ( as per boxtop ) & one RN. AS usual the colour references are only back to Revell colours, with mixing to produce desired colours. A little research will give the correct names for the colours & replacements.
A few detail shots

Detail is quite good, but clean up will be needed.
Noticeable is the separate control surfaces & flaps. What is disappointing is that there is a large detailed weapons bay, with open doors, but absolutely nothing to put in it. There is an option to build the model with extended radome, but that could only be seen in flight. The cockpit(s) are quite well detailed with decals for seat belts. Weight is called out to prevent tail sitting.
As it stands this is a very nice little model, but with additional work it could be a real showstopper - populate the weapons bay - and add the curious double wing folds ( Airwaves do a PE set for this ).
Availability - not really - retailers have it in their catalogues, but none have it in stock. Revell don't have it in their listings - even though it's a comparatively new model! Ebay & pre-owned sites will be the only option ( I got mine from Ebay in 2019 for £13 delivered ), but prices are rising to collcetor levels - I'm lucky, I also have the T.5 version in the stash, bought at around the same time - its pretty much the same apart from no radome & with dual control cockpits...............
