    Tamiya 1/24 Nissan R390 GT1 - Inbox Review

A twinge in the hand has prevented benchtime, so I thought I'd do some inbox reviews of a couple of recent purchases!
Tamiya need no introduction - being the real kickstarter of the Japanese model Industry.
The Nissan R390 was designed for the 24Hr Le Mans race of 1997 - of the three cars entered, only one finished ( with two complete gearbox changes! ). All four cars entered in 1998 finished, very successfully - 3rd, 5th, 6th & 10th. Rule changes made them ineligible for further years.

I thought the body was in two pieces, but it is one - with odd shaped sprue runners - I bet the mould was complicated!!

Plated sprue - not too bright - more like a dull aluminium

Decal sheet for the three 1997 Le Mans cars.

Instructions in the normal Tamiya style, black & white line drawings - they look very clear - profiles in b&w only, although the pictures on the side of the box make up for this.Click image for larger version

The engine isn't the most detailed, but buried deep in the bodywork should be OK

The designers seemed to have had a thing about moulding parts in one piece!

The plated parts look excellent - a light wash should really bring out the detail.
A typical Tamiya product, well presented, & looks to be very nice in terms of detail and engineering.
A careful masking job will be needed between the red and the black, but other than that, it should be within the range of any modeller. I'd recommend this on the basis of just looking at the parts.
Availability - Yes - widely available - expect to pay about £22 ( +p&p ) I managed to pick this up for £21 delivered............. It's good value for that price!
I've been looking at race track cars & prices seem to be climbing rapidly at the moment - Le Mans cars especially, you need to hunt around.

That looks a really nice kit Dave. The car doesn't interest me much though!

I had started looking at 1/20 Formula One cars, but the prices really put me off!
