The Arleigh Burke class of Missile Destroyers is still in production.......... they were intended to be replaced by the 'Zumwalt' class, but the massive cost overruns of this project led to only 3 being completed ( sort of ) and then cancelled. More Arleigh Burke Class being ordered to fill in the gap. Gas-turbine powered they have a 5" inch gun, 2 Phalanx systems & 96 cell vertical launch system for anti-aircraft use & 8 Harpoon anti-ship missiles. They have provision to operate a helicopter, but without a hangar. Later versions have a hangar for 2 helicopters& changed weapon systems.
This what you get in the box:
The usual sturdy box from HobbyBoss - and the fragile parts protected by foam sheet
Sprues:
A spare helicopter....................
Enough railings for the model, no AM bits needed!
Usual HobbyBoss instructions - pretty clear, but no detail colour call outs
A few detail shots
Harpoon launch tubes
Props for the full hull option................
Vertical Launch System Cells in PE ( no plastic option ).
The sprues are all crisp & no flash can be seen - the moulds date to 2011. These modern ships don't have a great deal of detail, and this model reflects this.
HobbyBoss produce several boxings ( Momsen, Lassen, Hopper, Cole ) with differing parts - the latest being the USS Forrest Sherman, which is a later AB variant with a 2 helicopter hangar.
This is a comparatively simple model, just the 1/700 scale may cause a few problems with small parts ( and the PE, of course! )
I got mine from Amazon at £11.99 ( a very good price ), but I had another item in my shopping basket ( a saucepan! ), so I qualified for free delivery. Supply seems to be a bit patchy, but they can be found.
I'm very happy with this, especially at the price I managed :thumb2:
