Recieved an email asking if I would be interested in reviewing this new airbrush the Gahleri Mobius 0.2mm..
I am a bit dubious of knock-offs and thought this was just another one and that somewhere I would find a photo of the exact same model but from a recognised manufacturer that we all know and love.
So replied to the email in the positive with the thought that if it was not up to standard then it could go into the store away section... And about three weeks later after several emails keeping me informed of where my airbrush was in the mailing system - it arrived.
In the meantime I had looked at the company and read their comments, how they had produced the airbrush and what importantly was new that they were bringing to the airbrush community.
And so my bias was proven wrong, the airbrush did not arrive in a plastic bag but in a sturdy box...

And when the lid was removed there would be no need to go searching for parts because they are all on the underside...

There is the usual 'getting started' instructions which I found to be of a more informed product than you get from more established manufaturers...

So what do you get in the box - well you get a well engineered piece of machinery that is on a par with its better known cousins...

And also includes a set of spare seals, plus lubricant and quick change attachment for the air hose.
But what hits you in the eye first is the finish, no rough chrome edges, but a smooth finish overall - and all the moving parts move smoothly - none of the issues of quick, quick, slow that you can get especially on the MAC valve, which on one of my more established products feels as though they just forgot the screw itself and put in the closest they could find - but not with the Mobius one...

The cup screws into the airbrush again as though it was made for it (on the 0.3 model you get a bigger cup) and for most models this smaller cup will do the job. And what you will notice and is one of the points that Gaahleri put across is that the cup is chromed in such a way that makes the paint flow easier in the cup and is also easier to clean (which it does)...

One thing you will notice is the trigger, and rather than the usual round one, this one is shaped so that when your finger is on the trigger the pull back and importantly the push down for paint flow are so much easier. In the past I have had the two movements a bit of a pain, but this works every time. Also there is a new groove in the nozzle of the which I have not seen before and this is to improve the airflow through to paint flow.

So there you have it, sorry for the blurred pics but that chrome finish.....
How does it work???
Lacquers - I tried AK, Mr Hobby, Modelmaster, Tamiya and Humbrol enamel, all were on a 50/50 mix and all were on their own manufacturers thinners except the Humbrol which used white spirit. The 0.2mm needle handled them all without any problems and at a pressure down to 12psi. Lines were drawn down to 1mm and with very little problems.
Acrylic - Here I used Vallejo, AK and MIG and their variations. I admit to using Deluxe airbrush thinners and a flow improver, and even so there was a little bit of tip drying but nothing that a quick wipe with a tissue dampened with thinners did not solve.
As I am now going back to lacquers for my main spraying and with acrylics demoted to brush work I am very pleased with the outcome of the Mobius.
Price of the airbrush the 0.2mm on their website is on offer at $76.99 ($89.99) and the 0.3mm at $64.99 ($75.99), which are very competitive compared to others on the market.
