Until I saw this kit in the forum shop, I had never heard of Vulcan Models.
Ages ago I built the Tamiya BMW with sidecar and later I made the MiniArt Harley Davidson which was my first introduction to photo etch spokes and sectional tyres. As the Zundap looked so distinctive in the great box art work, I thought I would give it a try.
Really glad I did as this looks, at first viewing, a very nice kit. The photo etched spokes are there again but this time they are much better detailed and already formed for the dishing (the MiniArt ones were flat and formers were provided to dish them). Also there is a small photo etch set for some of the finer details on the kit as well a four tiny springs that are four the springs under the back of the saddles. They are very tiny and I feel that the carpet monster may have to be battled to keep possession of these springs.
The kit comes in a strong lid and tray box containing three plastic bags holding the main three sprues of the traditional grey plastic. The photo etch is bubble packed with the spoke sets in a cute little pack where the backing card is designed to look like a cutting mat.
The instructions are the traditional folding sheet and are clearly printed with building sequences but not a lot on the history of the bike. A figure is included as one of the sprues and is as depicted on the box art. Colouring is mentioned as either German Grey or Yellow depending on a Afrika Corps or grey for just about anywhere else.
The Zundap is very distinctive looking compared to the BMW with what looks like a pressed steel frame. The engine is very distinctive and should feature nicely on the completed build.
Here are a few pics as the box was opened.
The parts look well moulded and I think this will build into a really nice model. The colours on the box art look a little light to me, especially the grey and I am not sure how to do the engine, possibly Alclad dull aluminium with a dirty wash should just about do it.
At £8.73, this is a fine kit for the money. Available here 1/35 - Zundapp K800 Motorcycle Vulcan Models VMO56006 - ScaleModelShop
