Hints and tips for newer members...and the not so new

It has been brought to my attention that some posts, mostly those that are asking for help, could be a lot more detailed. To help those that are seeking help, here are a few suggestions:

Always look to see if there is a section in the forum that is most relevant.

Title the thread in a more meaningful way; Help! is just not enough info even if it is in the correct bit!

Which paint is best? is more helpful, but to be really helpful and thus get the most helpful and appropriate replies, "Which acrylic paint is best" will be the best option.

Sorry to chose the can of worms called which paint, its just been up a lot of late...

In the opening text, you could, if not in the title, clarify more. Type of paint, type of kit, scale, brand. etc.

    example:

I am building an Airfix 1/48 scale Spitfire XVI and need help with.....

Naturally, if in an under construction thread we would already know that.

Which glue? you are going to get a lot of helpful and misleading replies.

Which glue is best for PVC? should ensure that you get the most relevant help.

And now for those that would reply.

    I

If a member asks which are the best of the acrylic paints, I am sure that they do not want to read fifteen replies saying enamels. Such replies are seldom helpful to the poster and can also confuse them to the point of despair.

The unwritten decorum of the forum.

Please avoid the use of pictures as a reply. funny or not. If you want to post a funny picture, we have a jokes section for that sort of thing.

I would also like to discourage the use of large pictures in signatures.

WHY?! I hear you all cry out. Not all are on a super fast connection, many even use their smart phones and small tablets. All the "cartoons, witty photos, and banners take time to load. Not to mention take up room on the server. Room that would be far better used by photos of your great models and such.

I thank you for your time in reading this post and hope that not to many noses have been pushed out of joint.

We have a great place here. Lets try to keep it that way and not go the way of so many other forums.

Bubbles was a Police Informer in the excellent HBO series "The Wire" ...... So being "Bubbled" was to be informed on. I'd post up a picture of him, but I'd get in trouble.

Being "bubbled" is actually rhyming slang - bubble & squeak = sneak ie police informer

I think you'll find that ........ The correct interpretation of the Cockney "Bubble & Squeak " is "Greek" ........ ie "Stavros the Bubble"

That's the modern interpretation! Thank the film industry for that one!

Do not think there is anything correct with cockney rhyming slang.

Born, bred and worked in and around London the slang would change depending where you were in London. I bet it also changed through the ages as new items appeared in the community.

My interpretation was Bubble- Bubble Bath- Laugh. But then that must be recent ie mid last century as I would not think that too many cockneys had bathrooms or could afford bubble bath mixtures before that.

Sorry Ian we have all digressed from your excellent advice
