    Quotes with photos....

Hello everybody. Today we are going to talk about quoting posts. More specifically posts with photos.

We all do it, Even I have! We see a post and hit quote then write a reply. The post quoted has say ten photos. These ten photos get put into the quote and the post now fills two pages... If a couple more do the same there are five pages before the next new comment gets to be seen. People with slower connections have to wait even longer for the pages to load and we all get to look at the same pictures again and again.

So, Can we try to avoid quotes with all the photos. If a photo has to be used to clarify a question or comment include it but not all the others.

There are two ways of doing is. The quick and nasty; quote the whole post and delete the parts you do not need to repeat. which is the easy way on a tablet...

On a PC you can highlight the test and a little text bubble appears asking if you want to quote the marked text. click that and only the text gets copied to your post.

I hope that you will all try your best to do this. To be honest I have seen some thread that have so many repeat photos due to quotes, that they get way to drawn out and you start to loose interest. By doing this we can all contribute to keeping the threads dynamic and quicker to load.

    Thank you

Yeah great idea,,,, till someone posts a picture and gets 15 replies then the next person has to scroll back to see the picture that everyone's talking about? Yes at times its over load when someone like me posts 10 pictures of my latest acquisitions but that's not the norm for anyone on here. Try looking at those that post " look what I got" type posts seperatley to the Latest Acquisitions thread, in effect creating a new thread, or maybe you'll restrict how many pictures we can post per thread topic?

Anyway I'm outta here, good luck.

I usually access the forum using my Android phone & there's no way that I can see to delete an image in a post that I might want to quote. I can delete characters within a quote, but not any images.

In order to keep within forum guidelines, perhaps someone could provide some instruction as to how to achieve this? I think it would be helpful to anyone who is not very technically literate.

Also, does this rule apply to images that are actually image hosting website links? In that event, as the image isn't physically present on this site's server, surely repeating it in a quote wouldn't clog things up?

Hi Patrick. Sorry but I am not at all knowledgeable in the ways of iPad and andriod editing. I admit that although I often view the forum from an iPad of the smart phone, If i have to "get into things", so to speak I fire up the lap top. Perhaps another member can help there.

There is not problem with the amount of data on the server, as the quoted post is just a look up of the same picture file. The intent is purely to 'shorten the page' As I wrote, some threads that have multiple quotes that include all the pictures as well end up being two or three times longer.

What I thought was a good idea to help those that have a slower connection and to cut back on all the repeat images, appears to be not to every bodies liking.

To those that felt so much harm by the fact that I had edited their posts, removing the photos from a quote, should maybe have read this post, after all I do not mark things 'Please read', for fun.

I will have a look on my Android and iPad and see if I can figure it out.

I just logged in on my Android phone and had a play. If you quote the post the images are loaded as discussed. You can place the cursor inside the quote box by tapping just below it and delete the images using the phone's 'keyboard' back button (not the main phone back button!).

You can also highlight by holding your finger on the start of a section of the quoted post, and once the little cursors appear you can drag them to highlight the parts you wish to delete. Then once they are highlighted press the 'keyboard' back button. Hope that makes sense. There is no way of highlighting and quoting specific parts of a post unless you edit it the way I have described. A post from my phone will appear below very shortly to demonstrate what i did to your post Patrick, using the procedure I described.

I've changed it so you don't have to remove an image when quoting, it will be done automatically, I hope, you can test it by quoting me

                              Nice one John!
