    Latest update feedback

New look & feel after update is always a bit frustrating at first before you get used to it, this I know all to well as a forum admin and developer... (every time I do any major overhaul there are always people saying they won't ever come back unless I roll back the changes - which luckily they never do... hehe...)

One feature I miss with this new layout is a one-click function to see all the latest posts, not just the latest unread posts.
Is it possible to add a menu item under forums, next to New posts, called "Latest posts" e.g. with the URL
    Code:
    http://www.scale-models.co.uk/whats-new/posts/?skip=1
to solve this please, unless there's something I've missed? That would save me and others from making two clicks.

The dynamic width of the page could also benefit from being wider than it is right now because everyone has got a widescreen monitor nowadays...

Apart from that it looks great!

p.s. You might already work on these two items? If that's the case you can ignore my feedback.

I didn't mean to upgrade the forum just yet, I started uploading the files to the wrong directory and once I had noticed it was too late and I had to commit to the update.

So I've not had chance to look at changing or fixing anything, it's just the default settings, once I get chance I will make some changes.

That must've been a momentarily sweaty discovery I guess?!

So far everything seems to work on a technical level so the upgrade must've gone well.
I'll try to run through the options and report back if there are any technical issues but I won't mention any look & feel findings.

just looks kind of old fashioned to me

        John

its not long since the last update, why do you think the site needs another so quickly?

As someone who's running another really large forum sometimes you're forced to upgrade in order to maintain security.
In the past browsers had less features and less frequent updates whereas today it's a lot different and there are snapshots released every day with bug fixes and added features.
This sadly means that many more severe bugs are found and those are pushed out as quick as possible in order to protect the user!
This means that parts have to be rewritten in order to solve severe security flaws and this can/will often affect the look & feel.
UI design also changes with time and this means change. This upgrade of the forum feels more current than the previous one and you'll adapt in a couple of days

Change isn't always bad. Often it's for a good reason too!
Whenever I face a radical chance I give it a couple of days, really going through the new UI and it's features, and then make up my mind.

Let John tinker with the layout setting so the template looks like he intends to, then we can ask for things we miss, but you have to maintain software status from a security point of view, there's no other way, and that means UI changes too since it's part of the normal software life-cycle!

I like the new layout. I miss "Latest posts" feature like I wrote, but there was a valid answer why I couldn't find it so I'll happily wait and will try to discover what's changed and what's new meanwhile!

I also like it! Seems to be a bit faster too.

The server is now using php7 which is much faster than 5.6 and the updated software takes full advantage of it
