The forum resizes them automatically so they end up with 1024 pixels (off the top of my head) on the long side, if they’re bigger than that. This automatically reduces the file size approximately quadratically (that is, if the number of pixels along both sides is halved, the file size will be quartered, more or less), and the re-encoding associated with this change in dimensions may take off more depending on how much compression it applies to the picture.

However, XenForo forums appear to have a problem with images that are above a certain file size before they get resized. I’ve not been able to work out how large a file will cause problems, but I suspect that might be related to the amount of memory the forum has available — not disk space, but working memory that the web host allows the forum to have.

Thanks for your efforts with this. I'll bear in mind the pixel size but I'm pretty sure I don't go any bigger than 1024x768 anyway.

Sorry for the loooooooong downtime, the server had a melt down, I was working on it will 10pm but wasn't getting anywhere, so had a bit of a kip and started again at 7am, it's now 3pm and I think it's fixed, I might had to do some more work on it but I will leave that till later, I must say I was getting worried, the company that the server is with have been very little help, and I'm still waiting for a reply from the tech support

Thanks for all you have done.
I worked as server admin for a number of years, so know how vital it is that the support is there.

I take it that the sellers of the server are working with the 'Sold it. Forget it. Next sale.' philosophy that so many IT companies seem to have. Whatever, we're all extremely grateful for your work keeping the forum going.
