How about a Model Review and Feedback Section?

    Hello admin chaps,

Apologies if I have completely missed on something that is already on the site but I thought it might be a good thing to set up a model review and feedback section??

It all stems from me umin and arring as to what model to purchase next. It's a minefield out there as to what could be a good or bad model for the price. So far it's a bit hit and miss with review sites, and you don't get the average joe's opinion in any case.

So, could it be easy enough to set up a model review section that can be made up of the usual categories, with further subfolders for their scale. Here, our members could not only show off their fantastic achievements but also add a review and feedback section. The member could also put their opinion of the build, quality and cost with a simple star rating... what do you think?

I know we already have the products review and testing sections but we don't really have a model review and feedback section, to help us members (and a newcomer like me) make the right purchase decision especially if you're looking at Tamiya or hasegawa 1:32 scale jets that can go to £100+?

    What do you think?

    Cheers for now

    Chris

This is a great idea!!!! I've got a few old airfix kits so I'm sure that some of the old timers here would be instrumental in helping sort out the build issues!

The decision ultimately lies with John and, as you say we do have the product review section where such threads are supposed to reside but I do think the idea has merit. Don't forget though we are a scale model forum, not just a plastic kit forum so we have to think of this globally and not just our own specific areas of interest.

This could perhaps incorporate mixed media models, wooden kits, RC kits as well as RC RTR stuff so there is scope. Maybe the membership here should respond and if we generate enough interest then John will see the value in such a heading.

Very good points well made Sir! Indeed one of the reasons I like these forums is their diversity.

Excellent idea which would be of great benifit to me as I have only recently returned to modelling.

Whilst Building 1/35 armour is my main interest, it would be handy to have a dedicated 'site' where I could research other aspects of our hobby.

Sounds like a cracking good idea. Lots of reviews are done by folks with really good modelling skills. It would be helpful to see reviews done by some less experienced modellers who could tell us of the things they found difficult. I know I've found problems with some of my builds which were either not mentioned in reviews or 'glossed over' as relatively simple to solve.

I am up for this idea too,

The product review part on this site at the moment is for manufacturers who care to donate their products to us for review. We have not had many so far but I am sure that will change soon given the popularity and scope of this site.

Individual reviews of kit builds though is an excellent idea as we all buy these kits so it would be a good way to air common problems with certain kits and the way to get the best out of them. Hopefully if the manufacturers read the comments on the kit reviews then we will all benefit from it.

              Regards.......Mark

                All

Many thanks for the responses - really appreciate the comments, yes Stona - that's also the same reason why I like this forum as everyone's opinion is acknowledged and considered. It's great to see you all interested in the merits of having a review section. Thanks .

Quite right Bunkerbarge on the issue of covering all areas and aspects of modelling that would have to be considered; though could additional sections be added as and when necessary?

Mark, your comment is something I never thought of, where this could extend the boundary of not just helping us mortal modellers but could also benefit manufacturers as an improvements tool for their models. Potentially, everyone's a winner!

I just hope this generates enough interest that it becomes a reality; then the topping on the cake would be someones review of a Trumpeter 1/32 EF-2000A Eurofighter Typhoon .

Well, cheers - and shall await John's decision. Many thanks.

                Chris

That might be because I haven't contacted any for ages, I was fed up of getting no response from them, it might be time I tried again.

Anyway, I've always said I'm happy to create as many forums as people want as long as they are going to get used, I don't want loads and loads of different forums as I think it puts people off not knowing where to post, and then deciding not to bother.

I would be happy to create a review/feedback forum but not for every scale that would just confuse things, but what I can do is create a prefix drop down for the thread title, either "review 1:32", "feedback 1:32" or something along those lines, if I did that then you could use the search to search for those prefixes and it will bring up all the threads, of cause if there are loads of threads I will split it in to sub-forums but I think it's a start doing it this way to see how it goes.

What forums would you want me to create and what scales etc?

As a suggestion how about we start very simply with one for aircraft and flying machines, one for boats and water craft and one for land vehicles. I suspect that we are not going to get that many reviews to merit splitting them into further subdivisions such as scale but if these three headings start to look cluttered we could always split them in the future.

                      Thanks John

Well that's great to hear. Will look forward to seeing the forum grow and evolve. Thanks for the consideration and I look forward to posting my 1:48 A-10 review, heh when I finally get it finished!

I've created air, land and sea review forums, that should be enough to start with, let me know if I've missed something.
