I've seen this on other sites and I think it would work really well on here. What does everybody else think?

Good point Bob but experience on this forum is that by expecting people not to fill a thread with other comments, (I think spamming up is bit harsh) people just stop posting in them.
I believe the "thanks" button works OK in that respect. After all you are not going to thank some one for a thing you don't think is a good idea.
We will just have to se If John "like"'s the idea.

If you are talking about the like button that is connected to Facebook I used to have it enabled but there was some problem with it, I need to update the forum software after Christmas so I will look at it againComment

I think he means a like button internally in the forum. Just called like instead of thank.
Could that be the idea? Can we have both a thanks and a like button?

Seems all superfluous to me there are enough controls etc as it is.
Would you sit there thinking do I push the thanks button or the I like button.
Just call it the "thanks I like button". If I put an idea out & somebody presses the thanks button I would immediately think they liked the idea.
Put another way what would you think if they pressed the thanks button but not the good idea button & vice versa.
Keep it simple stupid !

Ian MYes, the one I'm on about is just a little button under each post. I've seen the functionality on a couple of forums, notably the Marshall amplifier forum, and it used to be on the Home Recording forums. I didn't mean spamming in a bad way, I just meant "cluttering" sorry.
It's actually quite nice to get "likes" when you visit the forum. Sad. Very sad.
It's not the end of the world if no-one "likes" the idea.Comment

No offence intended Bubba, but keep in mind this is, and long may it stay so, one unique, easy going site where members feel free and easy about posting comments, humorous, constructive, whatever, and I don't see that as 'Spamming' or 'cluttering', but good interaction between members.....It might be regarded as such on other less user friendly sites (I'm sure you've all had a look on them, I have)
I for one love to read folks diverse comments on all the build threads.....So I reckon things are O.K. as they are.......Press the thanks button as a simple courtesy, to show you have read the contents of the post. Or, post your thanks for some special comment from a fellow member.
Remember Scale Models is the friendly Forum and I for one don't want it to change. I love the 'pot boiler' attitude of you people (a good mix).....Apart from anything else, I couldn't cope with any more buttons!
My bit added....

Im with ron , positive feedback is one thing we're definitely not short of on here , i reckon the current system seems to work ok , the thanks button being a "thanks for the compliment" or "thanks for the idea" or "thanks for a good read" sort of thing , in essence the equivalent of the like thingy . As ron says were in an enviable position of being the friendliest , most positive , constructive forum around , and anyone who disagrees wiith me will feel my wrath!! (joking of course) tonyComment

RonIt's just something that popped into my mind as an easy solution when I was reading the "How To" section, where it was suggested that posts saying "I like that" or "Good Idea" might be deleted to keep the thread tidy. I'm all for as many positive responses to a thread as possible, generally.

What about just calling it thumbs up, that way it could mean thanks, like, I found this useful or many other things, and when you press it it would say John gives this the thumbs up and not John thanked this personComment
-
I truly don't understand, why can't it be left just as it is? It's working perfectly well, so please John don't alter a system that we've been happy with....
From the posts on this it would appear people feel the same......I could be wrong mind, it wouldn't be the first time!
It's not like me, but I'm getting seriously worried now.....
Apart from the free flow of comments that make this forum unique, being possibly 'Diverted', I can see more buttons and options and thus more complicated. Over reacting? I think not....

I've already posted on this but I would just like to add....Why change something that is working perfectly well and members are quite happy with it......and have been for some time!!!!!!!!!
Surely there must be more than two or three members of Scale models that agree that no change is neccessary or desired, or is this suggestion going to become reality without any further comment? Come on boys, please add your posts to help John come to a balanced decision.
That's me done, I can't add any more to this thread......
