    Odd one

Recently I have had a strange problem with the site. All is well when I log on and carries on so for a while. The first symptom I get is that the "back" button stops working. When I pull down the "recent pages" panel, the pages I have been looking at have been replaced with facebook addresses which I certainly have not been to.

I am using W7/IE10 fully updated. Kaspersky finds no problems.

    Anyone else getting similar?

I am using Firefox with no issues. Maybe Colin will be able to help you, I'm not sure what those Facebook plugins mean.

Ahhh ... Facebook...the most intrusive piece of privacy invasive s**t ever .... if only I could fry their servers I would be one happy bunny.

Anyway ... theres a chance you may have been into a website that has popped a tracking cookie into your computer cache.... this enables facebook to track your use of webpages ..especially those that have facebook addons (sorry to say this site has the curse too in the form of the "like" button)

You could try clearing your history, cache and cookies and see if that helps. Failing that there's a number of programs out there that block the tracking .. I use one on chrome (although I decompiled it so it behaved as I wanted )

If you want to know more and how to evade this invasion of privacy then Google "facebook tracking" there's plenty of independent opinions and resolutions to go through.

          Thanks for the replies.

Hmmm. Very annoying. A bit of research shows that although I never use this inane service, they are able to track me and interfere with my computer. Seems all they need is for you to visit a page with a "facebook like" on it. Curiosity is that it is only this site I am having problems with.

There was one particularly scary comment on a site about this "If they are not trying to sell you something, then it is you they are selling".

Ive been visiting some geeky developers/programmers sites to keep up with the times and do a bit of research and have noticed that the xenforo forum software is mentioned quite a bit about security issues and tracking... a few guys have gone back to vbuletin (they were running dodgy sites so needed the 3rd party security addons that people had written).

Its not this forum that's caused any problems but there's obviously something somewhere that links facebook to any cookies stored in your computers cache.

You'll be surprised what software you install (including antivirus stuff) sends personal details all over the place to their affiliates.

One of the reasons I run everything stock (Microsoft's bad enough in the first place )

The problem isn't down to xenforo, almost every site now a days have a Facebook like on it, if you don't want FB to track you you can use Facebook Disconnect - Firefox & Chrome. Not available for IE

the coding for the like button contains the instructions to inform facebook that you're visiting the site so facebook knows who you are ... if you don't have a facebook account then various information is passed on from your browser, if you don't have all the necessary security updates for your browser then personal information "could" be passed on.

Facebook disconnect, as you say, only works for firefox and chrome ... there's an upgraded version that works with safari also which is just called "disconnect" ... doesn't mention that it'll be available for ie at all either.

Also, be aware of using mobile or tablet devices with a Facebook login.
