Looking to buy my first Airbrush compressor kit.

I've narrowed it down to these two

    http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Complete-Airbrush-Compressor-Regulator/dp/B009VY7DAG/ref=sr_1_53?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-53&keywords=airbrush+compressor+with+tank

I've never heard of AGPtek but i'm also not looking to spend $300-400 on a fancy set.

It all seems fine but I literally have zero knock ledge of air brushes and not sure if the Nozzle: Dia.0.3mm is what i would need for 1-48 and 1-35 scale models. Not sure what type of fittings I would need if i did want to purchase my own airbrush that would work better.

    Here is the second option

    http://www.amazon.com/Paasche-D3000R-Compressor-Regulator-Moisture/dp/B001CJPWYM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409733900&sr=8-2&keywords=airbrush+compressor+with+tank

its a paasch set that seems pretty decent and if I got a refurb from Amazon it would only be $119 instead of $160 almost $50 savings. But I have no clue (as stated before) of what brushe/s or fittings I would need to purchase. Any help would be great thank you.

I bought exactly the same setup as the first option. The compressor is pretty quiet in operation, no neighbours have complained if I use it past 11pm!

It does get got with prolonged use (30 minutes +) so I put a fan next to it which keeps the temperature down.

The airbrush is your basic Chinese product, it looks like the BD-30. It's a reasonable starter AB, with the ability to get very fine lines. Build quality is questionable as they vary quite a bit. My ones nozzle cap was poorly machined, leading to airflow problems.

The other option looks just the same as the first compressor with Paasche branding.

    Cheers

I bought the A's186 which came with two airbrushes was £86 so cheap as chips off amazon don't know if it's avaliable where you are, but it's quiet works every time (provided you clean the abs every time you use them) it's never let me down so if you can get that setup over there I would highly recommend it. And if you don't like the abs that come with it there are plenty of them available. Like I said 86 quid just for the compressor is a bargain, I've seen compressors alone with no tank or air trap for 3 times that price.

On Amazon the Foxhunter KMS airbrush as186 is for 70 quid with good reviews. I'm waiting till I get some cash before I get one.

Ten. Hope that is your Christian name. The majority of the low cost compressors are made by the same Chinese manufacturer.

If you look at the at al the detail they are all the same but with variations to the finishes ie paint work etc. All work perfectly well. Relaibilty. I am on my fourth in 4 years. Others have had the same one for years more so it depends on your luck.

Basic difference is that some have a tank others do not. I would opt for a tank every time. Having had both I found that the airflow was superior on a tank type. With a tank you are almost assured of a constant exact flow of air. I suspect that the majority of the model making fraternity have this model.

If you have sound problems with neighbours there are alternatives. With a refrigerator compressor type the decibel rating tumbles to about 3/5ths of the model you are contemplating. Unfortunately the cost is in the other direction by 3/1.

Next time I have to buy a compressor I will opt for a tank less and add a 3 times bigger tank in line. Probably a pedantic pursuit but then all model makers are pedants !

I bought from B And Q a washing machine sound absorber mat which goes between floor and machine which significantly reduces the sound thro the floor and in the room to a more reasonable purr (at least near) .

I paid 86quid for mine typical, that just makes it even more of a bargain one tip though it has a 15 amp fuse in the plug but is only rated as needing 5 so get that out to avoid damaging it if something goes wrong.

In the first set-up the compressor looks like the AS186, which I have and it has worked perfectly without a hitch for 3 years. The airbrush is a cheap 'knock-off' as others have said but gravity feed is good and if the needle is 0.35 then that should be fine for your needs. I would suggest a needle 0.3 to 0.4 is good for models though when more experienced a 0.2 needle can be used but I would not recommend smaller. With a 0.35 you can get quite fine lines incidentally. I use a 0.4 and 0.2 myself with 1/48 and 1/32 scale airfcraft. these days mostly the 0.4.

I would recommed that set up but you should save up to get a better airbrush in due course, the H&S Evolution is what I would recommend but that can wait as the cheap one should do you fine for a while.

I got those Chinese stuff both AB and the compressor and works quite well for me. It hasn't been a year tho, so I don't know how long it's gonna last. But as for the result and finish, I'm more than satisfied.

Do no worry Leo they normally do no pack it in until the day after the guaranty ends

I bought one similar to that 2 1/2 years ago and the compressor is still working fine. I used the airbrushes it came with for the first year till I upgraded them. Its a good starting point without breaking the bank and saving money for more important things like lots of kits

I agree with Adrian its a great starting point to get used to airbrushing , over time you may get hooked and want to upgrade , I started with a similar setup then upgraded my airbrushes and compressor , my only caution is if you want to use solvent paints or thinners/cleaners they will eat the rubber o rings in the cheaper airbrushes in no time but if you only use acrylic or water based paints they are fine .

I recently bought the foxhunter as186 compressor kit. The compressor works great but as some people have said the airbrushes that come with it are cheap chinese ones and can vary in quality. I have had a few teething problems with mine. Saj
