New brush used in anger

Hi,

My wife and children got me an airbrush and compressor for my birthday and i got myself a portable spray booth, all of which is working fine. In my eagerness to try it out i have been using it on the side panels of my warrior MCV build, so have sprayed onto them;

Grey primer - straight from bottle

Air - Dark Grey - straight from bottle

MC sand yellow - with Vallejo airbrush cleaner to the 'milky' way.

Very happy so far, but think the yellow may need another coat as some shading appears darker in places than others, or is that the idea to add variety to the panels, obviously they will be weathered so may not be much of an issue i suppose. photo attached, not the best as shot in the kitchen (strip light, so light is all over the place as you can see from one side to the other- will try getting another shot this afternoon) [ATTACH]89661.IPB[/ATTACH]

, best light is daylight but was pitch black so that wasnt an option.
Read various threads on MC spraying been an issue, but the MC sand yellow looks totally different to Air sand yellow, on vallejos colour charts, mind saying that spraying MC sand it looks totally different to a couple of pieces i have painted by brush - uhmmm. Last thing PSI whats the best range ?

Anything from 15 - 25 psi down to personal preference really but anything in that range works for me

Very nice from what the pics show, nothing wrong with a little more "shadow" showing through in some areas and to be honest that is a look I try to achieve on certain pieces.

Thanks, ordered some Vallejo Air sand yellow this afternoon, so may spray better than the MC colour.

I've tried spraying MC with no success at all Steve & have been reliably informed that the pigments aren't ground fine enough to suit an airbrush.

I don't know if this has a bearing on your experience though.

As Aaron said, I think a bit of variation is a good thing, especially on monochrome vehicles.

Me too. But perhaps not as high as 25 psi if using a needle as big as 0.4mm. But everyone is different.

I agree with Aaron, looks very good to me and if i try to do that it never works

and i always think that it was mostly done in the field over gray

Do the darker areas look more green than the rest Steve? I'm only asking because I've had problems with Vallejo Model Air Sand Yellow. The brown pigment keeps separating out in the airbrush - you can see it form a sort of scum on the top of the paint surface.

Maybe the Model Colour suffers from the same problem?
